I got into an accident a couple days ago and was wondering about something. It wasn't my fault, and the insurance company of the other party wants me to go to a particular body shop. I gave them a few estimates from other body shops but now they want me to go to their particular body shop. Do I have to go there, or can I go wherever I want? The only reason I ask is the body shop they want me to go to is pretty shady. Not just their actual location but the way they handle business. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure you don't have to go but you do have to get the estimate from what ever shop you are going to approved. If they keep saying no I'd talk to my insurance company and ask them what to do. You may have to sue the insurance company.

Who is your insurance carrier? If you have to, get your insurance adjuster involved. They will work (or try to) with the other insurance company to get your car fixed at a reasonable expense at an agreed location.

This isn't your responsibility. Go to whatever shop YOUR insurance company recommends. Your insurance co/agent should be handling this so express your concerns to them.

You can go to whichever body shop you choose. You definitely are not required to go to a shop that the other party's insurance company asks you to go to.

Auto Body Repair Consumer Bill of Rights (from AAA of Southern California):
A CONSUMER IS ENTITLED TO:
1. Select the auto body repair shop to repair auto body damage covered by the insurance company. An insurance company may not require the repairs to be done at a specific auto body repair shop.
2. etc etc
