Someone suggested TomTom to me. A competitor of Garmin.

Garmin - my father in law has this one (http://www.garmin.com/products/sp2660/) and it's great. Has a 3GB CF card built in, so you can load up all of the maps at once. No need to swap CDs or anything silly like that.

A lot of law enforcement vehicles in this area have a Pioneer system.

The Hertz Rent A Car "Neverlost" system is a magellan setup.
I've used it MANY times and have had pretty good success.
For whatever reason though, asking it to route me to the nearest In'N'Out Burger always seemed to put me in the middle of nowhere.
Not sure if this is a hertz software or a magellan software problem.
