It's not that it was that hard of a test, it just took me forever to get the motivation to go take the test. It was quizzing with completely outdated technology...I mean, come on....who uses an AUI network connection anymore?

Anywho...I'm now certified. W00T.

Hey, way to go!

And don't knock the AUI questions... you never know when you might have to set up a 10BT thinnet segment!

Thanks, but...isn't AUI thicknet? :P

I think Jeff was just testing you. BING! Right again!!

:)

Actually, I think AUI refers to the 15-pin DIN connector used for Ethernet connections. Back in the day we had AUI connectors on our thicknet transcievers, NICs, and hubs, but it's possible that people used AUI connectors on thinnet (in addition to BNCs).

Congrats on passing the test (for real)!

You know, I still have a few of 10Base5 vampire taps... :heh:

I would have to agree. Where I remember using them most was the back of a older Cisco routers...

there are plenty of basic a+ cert books

The test is very easy as well, basic troubleshooting, irq settings, serial port settings, how laser printer works

Unless they changed the test in past 7 years

A+ isn't too bad. I had very little background in the material and self studied my way through the subject matter. I studied Mike Meyer's "All in One" A+ guide for starters.
ISBN: 0072229918

Once I completed the book and felt I knew it farely well, I searched online for practice questions and people who made comments on what was on their version of the test. You can probably find 30-50% of the questions by taking tons of online test questions.
Warning: Do this method after you have a firm grasp of the material because many online sites have incorrect answers and nonspecific questions.

For the test, make sure you have a good working knowledge (memorization) of IO addresses, IRQs, DMAs, etc. Comptia focuses 10-20% of the test on stupid memorization questions that no one would ever need to remember on the job, thanks to the internet.

And Raimin, I think they changed the test about 2 or 3 years ago, as an FYI. They may be due for another change soon.

I saw a bunch of A+ certification books in ebay but I dont understand why people charge 13 - 18 bucks for shipping a book... What a Rip Off..
