Aside from the Rejoicing, Family Gatherings, Gift Giving and Stress, without a doubt, Christmas offers some of the tastiest goodies and sleepiest meals of the year. Problem is, FRUITCAKES seem to turn up almost everywhere, and for the most part, I view them as uninvited guests. We've all heard jokes hailing their many uses... and none having to do with food. I've only really enjoyed one recipe ever, and that particular "brick" came from a place in Corsicana, Texas that ships 'em all over the world. It's apricot based and doesn't remind me of the old, dark, sticky bricks and round mold varieties that graced the long, draped folding tables at church and family Christmas dinners when I was a boy. Many was the time that a strange slice of heaven unfortunately found it's way into a doggie's tummy, or mysteriously just vanished... right under the table. Even now, I try to avoid an unknown brick at all costs.

I'm certain this question has been asked before, but have you ever met a fruitcake you really liked?... other than some of your buddies at G|A, of course.

I have never had fruit cake, but I saw it made on food network and I think it looks pretty good

No, I have never found a tasty fruitcake. The last fruitcake I ventured trying was by my brother-in-law a few years ago. Didn't care for that either and he's supposed to make a good one. Fortunately he's not the type of person who would take umbrage, but others would get miffed. What, I'm supposed to pretend something nasty tastes yummy? Sometimes people ask too much.

99% of all fruticakes suck. if you make it right... REAL candied fruit instead of the cheap colored crap you get for 99cents at the grocery store... and age it right (wrapped in liquor-soaked cheesecloth in a stone container for a few weeks... it is delicious. i beg my mom to make me fruitcake every year - ye who have had only crapcakes instead of fruitcakes cannot understand...
