Angel tree, OC. :)
We adopted a family right before thanksgiving and we helped them again at Christmas.

Yes, we pick a boy and girl off the angel tree every year and let the kids pick out a present, wrap it themselves and drop it off. Kinda gets them in the spirit of Christmas--even if there's no snow :)

yeah. it's a good way to teach my son about giving to the less fortunate. this year he picked the toy out for the little boy and took it to church to give to the lady in charge of the program.

yep, we have a "giving tree" at church with tags on it for anonymous gift requests from local families who are in need. you don't find many at all asking for toys. it is usually requests for warm clothes and gift certs for groceries. i always add a toy to the clothing anyways, and i always take a tag for a boy and one for a girl.
I did, a 5 year old little boy.

I bought some toys at the Mattel store right near my office (we're very close to the Mattel HQ building here in Los Angeles). I have to show them my badge and I get a 20% discount on top of the discounts already at the store for the holidays. I left them in the big USMC toys-for-tots bin at my office. It was nice to see that it was filled to near-capacity this year.

My church does a giving tree-unfortunately-the whole program is run by old ladies who think that every single little kid alive who might not have a christmas will be thrilled to get some gloves and a package of socks. I've gotten into the habit of giving money to the priest-for him to designate which family might need it. It just makes more sense...

I'm involved with an organization here that held a multi-cultural "winter" party for the kids-we asked for donations of books, blankets, and toys..and got so many we didnt know what to do with all of it-then toys for tots kicked in THEIR surplus and we had so much that someone suggested sending it to the salvation army (where they would turn around and resell for a ridiculous price)...instead I think they divided the stuff between local shelters...toys for Tots collects WAYYY too much stuff.

No angel tree for me, but I did buy a couple of board games at the local Toys R Us and donated them to Toys For Tots.

We've done the Angel Tree thing in the past, and one year even volunteered to deliver the toys (now THAT was an eye-opening experience...)
Lately we've decided to make it more personal and give gifts of cash to needy families we know.

Sometimes we have participated in the official "Angel Tree" project. But more often we find someone we know and help them as they have need.

i came into this thread, like others, thinking we were talking about tilted Christmas trees. for the record, ours at my parent's house was pretty straight.
