xbox owners, i need your help...

i know you need a "system link cable" to connect 2 or more xboxes together... but what i want to know is:

1) does a link cable come with an xbox?
2) is the link cable a standard ethernet cord?

thanks in advance.

You can connect the XBoxes using a router/hub and ethernet cables :)

edit: when do spb and me get invites to this so-called lan party? :)

2)Again no. Its basically an overpriced ethernet crossover cable not worth buying. You can buy a cheaper, longer crossover cable.

What I did at my house is use a cheap hub and ran standard ethernet cords to it.

No doesn't come with it. Regular CAT5 ethernet CROSS-OVER cable, or regular CAT5 ethernet cables with a router.

oh! ok, about routers... if i used a router instead of a stand-alone switch/hub, do you think i'll have any problems with xboxes being able to read each other? kinda like how you can't just connect two computers to a router and have them automatically read each other...

If you want the xboxes to see the outside world, then you'll need to go through a router/firewall to get to the internet. Otherwise, just use a standard hub or switch. If you have one of the home routers with 4+ ports, you can use it as well (it's just a router & switch combined). I personally use a 4 port 100mbit Netgear switch when setting up my small xbox lan parties and it works great. Check newegg for the parts.

Just make sure to have enough comfortable chairs, big tv's, and munchies. Last winter I did one with 4 xboxes. Let me tell ya, 13 player Halo in one room is a blast. Have fun.

:stupid: although I must interject... huge Halo[2] games in one room are sweet, but putting the two teams in separate rooms prevents cheating and encourages strategizing.

cheating is so much more fun than strategizing.

i've got 8-12 dork friends with 3 xboxes, 3 tvs, 3 copies of halo2, and lots of beanbag chairs... this is gonna get good :D

it's even better if you can get a mole on the other team, but that takes planning.

everything xbox trys to sell besides the console and games is overpriced. you can use a common switch or router to connect the xboxes together, or like someone else said, buy a crossover cable(not from microsoft)
you may have to disable the firewall if you use a router. and since everyone's talking about lans, me and my buds used to do it too, and the best part was hearing loud obsenites from the room with the other team when you got double kills ect. Also, speaking of cheating, did anyone ever hear of the myg0t clan in counter-strike? they're just a clan that exists to make everone else's life miserable when playing. i think it's pretty funny. they find all the bugs, and submit them so more people can ruin the game for everyone else. i saw a particualr funny one for CS:S. what you'd do is buy a smoke nade and throw it directly into someone's face, and they would be stuck for the rest of the round.
stuff like that is pretty funny HAHAHA. unfortunatly, the bug has been fixed :neartears

If you think about it, Xbox's are just slightly modded PCs.. so it should behave just like a PC, right? I think so..
