Anyone notice that the Political forums have been mildly more civil than OT? Compare the Abortion thread to the "Swears like a sailor" or even most ironically the Peace thread. How ironic is it that an abortion thread is more civil than a peace thread?

I think its more a matter of the people involved and the statements made in the thread. The abortion thread seems to have lots of posts where people say i feel this, but its not a fact and i know that. How can you get offended by that? It seems very civil cause no one seems to be forcing their opinions on others. The peace thread seemed to almost want to force peace, and let me tell ya, no one likes to be forced to play nice. Hence why the lock down was instituted as things deteriorated. But hopefully, things will continue along the line of i feel this, what about you? and with that kind of openness, people will once again feel more inclined to write how they feel instead of just watching the experts and big cheeses toss their weight around.
Oh and happy holidays. :)

in the abortion thread I really think that most of us are trying to sort out and wrestle with issues. we're not sure and we say that. we are discussing, not lecturing (with the exception of a few posts).
i think fewer people venture into the Political Forum now that the elections are over. Maybe that's why there's more madness in OT than in the Political Forum.

Good observation... haven't looked at sailor, but your right when comparing the other two. You guys are off on the definition of life tangent right now, which can be less heated than abortion rights. I thought about jumping in last night but y'all are on an interesting roll... healthy discussion over there. Peace simply went the path of least resistance... (let's revisit who's been naughty), losing sight of the thread's original theme... (let's be better to one another, Here Me?!). Although I have limited experience in these forums, your point is well taken... an atypical shift has occurred for the reasons already presented.

I guess the real question then is why isn't anyone forcing their opinions on others.
Why can we refain here when the subject matter is about the possibility of killing kids but when someone's kid says the F word..... ooohp must indoctrinate?

What's Even more ironic is how you are dragging up posts that have since died or have been locked (to avoid more confrontation I presume) to cause shall we say..a slight rip in the very placenta of the G|A infrastructure. Your attempt to point out the obvious is nothing more than a ruse to insight yet another flame war. Nice going-what a slick move. Think anybody caught on?

I'm not bringing up old topics; I'm posting a curiosity.
There was no flame war 'till you got here. No one was being targeted. I was just asking what makes people go off. And I really don't know what I did to you to deserve this kind of treatment. If you have a personal problem with me, don't threadcrap, ask me about it. I'm sure we can resolve this peacefully.

You are becoming increasingly close minded and confrontational. I just don't understand why you've become so condecending.

This sentence scares me, yet I cannot turn away. That is one very visual bit of writing.
The Political Forum doesn't have much turmoil because, the politicians are all back in their home districts, making no noise, and therefore, nothing for us to bitch about/praise.
It has nothing to do with civility, it has everything to do with the fact that there is nothing to boil our blood.
