So we are planning our wedding and we need to give the DJ a list of songs to play for people to dance to. So throw out your suggestions. I don't think there will be much hip-pop, and there certainly will NOT be YMCA or Brass Monkey. We need ideas for good songs to dance to that won't offend the ears of old folks. So almost anything goes as long as it is dance-able. Fire away!

Notice the prominence of late 70's & 80's R&R in TV ads? They already invested countless hours and untold millions to figure out what music appeals to the widest audience without being offensive. I'd research that... and of course whatever you and your beautiful "bride to be" would like... Oh, AND SOME AC/DC TOO!

How about The Thong Song?
:lmfao: J/K
Maybe some AC/DC or Aerosmith. What kind of music are you into?

I just thought of a good one that was played at my wedding. I think it's called "Best Friend" by Queen. More of a slow song though

don't worry, NIN won't be played at my wedding. we're thinking of music for our guests to enjoy. sure some 70s or 80s are fine. i have a DJ, he just wants some suggestions of what we want. a list would help him too. there will be some Sinatra for slow dances, but we also need some more ideas for faster dancing. help me with the song titles folks.

thanks for the ideas and links. we're pretty much just looking for ideas and this is what y'all have given us. it's very much appreciated. and of course keep 'em coming if you've got more.
we've decided that our first dance will probably be to "She's Got A Way" by Billy Joel since my fiancee is a big fan and I think it's a cool song.

It was either that or have some our musician friends play You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC on 3 acoustic guitars and slowed down a lot so we could slow dance to it. It sounds more like a romantic song from the Gypsy Kings that way. I was down, she was skeptical, so we opted for the classy over the ridiculous.

if there are songs you absolutely don't want to hear... tell the dj beforehand. for me, the hokey pokey and ententanz/duck dance were no-no's.
what are you two going to dance to? father daughter dance? ... butterfly kisses is a good one. my dad and i had to talk about nonsense through the whole thing so we wouldn't cry at the damned sappy lyrics :P

we're going to dance to "She's Got A Way" by Billy Joel. father/daughter dance is up to her and her dad and they haven't said anything yet. the rest of the time we want fun music to dance to that everyone can get into. our DJ is good so he should have ideas, he just wanted a basic list from us to get an idea. and i will definately give him a list of no-no songs. that list is easy...

Yeah, those guys at DJChat.com are very knowledgable and experienced. I used to spend a lot of time there in college because I was really into beatmixing and DJ'ing/equipment.
I still lurk, but I don't post nearly as much as I used to.
