I recently decided to go vegetarian for the month of January (why you ask?... because I felt like it), and I just wanted to note. I'm half a day into it, and I suddenly had a craving for pork gyoza. :hmm:

Anytime you quit something, you always start craving it. I did that atkins diet and immediately after I started craving one of those sugar donuts and I NEVER crave donuts! I think it's just Murphy's Law. Good luck!

Try alfalfa gyoza. You won't notice the difference.

Back in high school I would do this at least once a year.

Good luck with that... Hmm but what about the wonderful turkey tacos? So sad... well when the day comes that you are done going vegetarian, we will have a party at the brazilian resteraunt that serves you meat in slabs... and most of it is wrapped in bacon.. mmmm bacon... shoot, i may have to go to the resteraunt without you... if only i could remember the name.. :(

Hah. Between you and Mr. T, I might die a horrible death of Honey Baked ham, porterhouses, and Vietnamese ham... uhh... wrapped in bacon. :toxic:

Hmm...Did this for 6months in college.
Try just cutting back on red meat for a month, then meat altogether.
then dairy, then anything that was "picked", then anything that casts a shadow...

Come on Nickel, why does everything have to always involve that for you? :disa:

good luck with that. i don't eat mch red meat, but i do eat a good amount of chicken, so i could not do that. try frying up some vegetables and imagining there is meat all around them. good luck.
the hardest thing i ever gave up was beer for lent 2 years ago. great experience, but i'm not sure i'd ever do it again. 40 days is a long time...

Funny thing is... I haven't really been having any cravings. I tend to think about food a lot, and I don't think it is actually the meat I am missing. I just happen to be thinking about foods that have meat in them.
Oh, and Tofurkey... uhh... yeah... :disa:

Nah, tofu isn't bad. It just sucks when people try to make it imitate meat....

Yeah, I definitely understand that... a source of great embarrassment to me in my high school years. :disa: Luckily, haven't had that problem for many years. I didn't believe it then but you do grow out of it.

Fogo de Chão (http://www.fogodechao.com/flash_index.php) is the big one that's based in Brazil. Sal e Carvão (http://www.salecarvao.com/) is a local one here in Chicago.
The only bacon-wrapped item I saw at these places was a sort of filet thing.
It's all good, though. :lick:

i saw that in the store the other day and i was laughing my ass off out loud. people were looking at me funny, but that's nothing new. i would never buy it, but i would try it if someone else had it simply because i will try any food once.

You are doing it backwards...go completely carnivore for the month. Cut out every and anything that wasnt alive, mobile, and sentinent. No need for ruffage. No need for carbs. Just eat meat.

i gave up meat for lent one time. being a steak and potatoes type of guy, it was incredibly hard at first...and was hungry all the time. but i got used to it...and i even have a great appreciation for eating more veggies. i'll still take a piece of steak over tofu any day tho.
