Wow. Doctors Without Borders announced they have received more money than they are able to spend on the tsunami victims.
I guess if you've got to have a problem, that's a good one!

maybe they could spend the surplus on domestic victims of disaster and poverty. They don't have borders, so everything is "domestic"! ;)
Actually, they do mention you are still welcome to give, but the money will be used for other needs.
I just heard on the radio that other aid organizations are upset at the announcement, because they fear this will cut into their support. I bet Doctors w/o Borders are just trying to avoid the trouble the Red Cross got into after 9/11, when they were "diverting" funds specifically given for 9/11 relief to other needs.

Thanks so much for this link!
A group I belong to are raising funds and now we'll know to send it in for their general funds, and not for the tsunami victims.

i thought that the red cross 9/11 thing was too much blood...and they couldn't use it because there were so few survivors... so they just destroyed a bunch of donated blood.

Both are true. They had to distroy a bunch of blood, *and* they got 'caught' diverting 9/11 funds to other needs.

there has to be other things they can donate the money to there.I used to work for a non-profit, and I believe there are laws prohibiting that. For example, money you give to Doctors w/o Borders cannot be given by them to the Red Cross.

They are still accepting $$ it's just that they'd prefer for it NOT to be specifically for the tsunami relief.

too much money?! how about handing out wads of cash to the tsunami victims. that would work too.
