Anyone know where I can get a cheap desk, something very simple like a 6 foot by 2.5 foot table and preferrably a wood top? I used to have a foldable table that I used to use and it would be perfect but I don't know where to get it. I don't want to go to IKEA because they charge too much. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

you're talking about those massed-produced universal folding tables thats used everywhere? you might try getting one from Staples or Office Depot. you might not get the discount for buying in bulk, but it might be what you're looking for...

I got your back on this one, eSDee. I'm sure you'll find something in your price range. :)

Thanks buddies. IaHAD, it's funny because I always go to craigslist first when looking for furniture :D Howver at the moment I can't find anything good on there, although I might be getting a free washer today from there.

Dafunky, you were right those are the tables I was thinking of. Pretty damn ugly, but I just need something quick. If I can't find anything better I will buy one of them. Thanks for finding that for me :thumb:

I have a wooden desk that is 5' x 3' and it is just sitting here at my house. It is a very solid wooden office desk, it could just use some refinishing due to a lot of abuse (scratches, nicks, etc). It's yours if you want to come up north.

you could always go find some scrap wood and make one

Funny you should ask. I have one to give away. It'll be a short 1,900 mile drive, and I'll even help you load it up.

I bought a all out computer desk from Walmart for $100. It has drawers and a backing with cabinets too.

Staples and Office Depot are the best option. My dad just bought several for his office there, but they are the plastic top ones since they are lighter and easier to move.

how about this one? it's in LA though and you'd need a truck to move it.

Check Salvation Army or GoodWill. Or yards sales (although it is raining now).

eSDee, I'm in the process of selling a bunch of furniture before we move back to the mainland and I've got 2 identical computer desks for sale...cheap. I'd hook you up! ;)

It's only one state west of you... :P

Anywho...I got these at a local hardware store for about $60 each on clearance, might be worth checking out. Places like Lowe's often clearance out old styles of desks and cabinets...worth a shot!

Yeah, I guess there's no accounting for taste in military housing decor...;)

It's really not as bad a color as the picture might lead on, though. Just bland

I don't know who that's an insult at, the military, or the owner of my apartment building :heh: but don't worry, our desks are similar enough to insult both of us. :P

did you ever use that $50 off coupon I gave you from IKEA?

Kevster where do you live again? Maybe you can bring the desk to the next G|A get together ;)

Most of their stuff is cheap, but for a plank of wood and some legs it'll run about $200. That's expensive.

Thanks man. I'll have my buddy in Maui pick it up :D

I have an IKEA desk that I might have to replace in order to make it a better work area in my room. But for now, especially after the hollidays, I might swing by Salvation Army or somewhere else with used furniture to get it done.

Yup I bought 250 hotdogs.

I live about 5 miles from Apex in the Los Angeles South Bay area.

It's a big desk with a heavy (1" thick) wooden top. If I were to bring it to a G|A gathering I would have to rent something because it certainly wouldn't fit in my Honda Accord.

Let me know what you want to do, otherwise it might just go to craigslist LA's "free to good home" section.

dude, ikea's not that expensive, is it? you could get a very sturdy wood table and buy the legs separately. my old roomie did that. :)

IMHO Ikea is waaaaaaaaay overpriced for their crappy desks. but if it's any consolation eSDee, Ikea is having an UP TO 50% off winter sale right now. i have no idea what is 50% off, but you may want to see if you can score a deal.

Just buy a set of legs from IKEA then go look for a clearance on Doors and put the legs onto the cheap door and you got a desk. Even has a hole pre drilled for wires.
