So a co-worker of mine got jumped over the new years weekend. They were all at a bar and one of his friends got sucker-punched and like 10 guys proceeded to jump and beat him up. My co-worker then tried to pull his friend out...but ended up getting pulled in and beat up quite bad himself. What would you do in this situation? What would be the best outcome/solution to this situation...physically,mentally, legally. The bouncers apparently did nothing and there was rumor that one of the guys doing the beating might have had a gun.

File a police report about the bar and the "suspects"....the bouncers are supposed to break that stuff up.

Bust out a knife and start puncturing fools is what I'd do.

Yeah that's just a bad situation. Sounds like your co-worker took a good course of action (though it didn't end well with the bounces sitting back).

Bust out a knife and start puncturing fools is what I'd do.Yeah or you could go nuckin' futs on em.

Stab a guy who has a gun? Not too wise. I've been jumped before and unfortunately if you are getting pummelled by 10 dudes (which I was) the worst thing to do is try and pull out a weapon or even fight back. Unforutnately the best thing you can do in that case is try to cover up as best you can. I was lucky that one of my boys came up shortly afterwards and started throwing haymakers. When the focus was on him I was able to get up and out of the stompfest.

In an effort to not sound stupid, I have to ask wtf is a haymaker?

Ah damn, didn't read about the gun. I...jumped the gun. Ya in that case, the best thing to do is try to cover up your face.

Basically, he was just throwing punches.

I haven't been in that particular situation before, but I would probably go a little nutso.... Maybe not, though.... The only thing I know for sure is that I would fight back, and depending on the situation, I would probably try to kill or maim a few of them.

He should file the police report as stated earlier so that there is a record of what happened. Did he have to go to the doctor? In this case a medical record might be good to have. Finally I would say he should contact a lawyer. A lawyer would know better what to do. The bar is responsible for what happens within, that is why they have bouncers. They might be liable. Not a big fan of being litigous but if the bouncers did not do their job they should be held accountable. Is there any way to find out the identities of the other fellas? Probably not but you never know. If you can find them he can always press criminal assault charges. Outside of that I don't think there really is much that can be done.

A real wild, hard punch. A knockout blow, so to speak.

File a police report, document injuries by seeing your doctor, and sew the establishment for negligence. Also, if you know who the perpetrators were file assault. Did you get hit with anything other than a fist, you can file assault with a deadly weapon...

yeh, i hope he takes some action. guys like that need to be taught a lesson.

i was kinda amazed to learn that some guys just go out for the sole purpose of looking for fights. my brother got his nose busted in a barroom brawl while he was in college and the gang of thugs that jumped him ended up getting arrested in the end luckily. they had no justification for the fight except to say they were just out looking for conflict.

Now the question is... what did the friend do to bring on that attack?

C'mon... 10 people jump on you at "random"... Hmm... fishy

:stupid: Does sound kinda fishy...

However, if a friend of mine was getting jumped, I would feel obligated to get jumped along with him. That being said... afterwards, find the guy who caused it later when he's alone and introduce him to your crew.

i don't believe my brother did anything either to warrant an attack. like i said, the guys who pummeled him later said they were just out looking to get into a fight.

me too. while on a fishing trip one night, went to a gas station and asked the attendant to reccommend a bar (i know, stupid to begin with, but... ;) ) his response: "whut kinda drankin yew lookin ta dew?"

we all looked at each other blankly.

"yew lookin ta drank rr are yew lookin fer a fight?"

uhhh...

so, yeah... there's your answer, df. they just looked for the toughest looking guys to prove their prowess on.

my last martial arts instructor (very well-known in our area as a bad-ass) was CONSTANTLY interrupted at bars by guys who started off the conversation with "you think yer tough, dontcha?" he prided himself on completely avoiding the fights.

Sounds like your bro was in the WRONG place at the WRONG time...

Pretty much... if you stay away from those kinds of places, you generally won't get jumped..

Generally, the "jumpers" will not go that far to try to find you. :hihi:

seriously... sometimes they don't need a reason but alcohol to fight.

Me personally I'd activate my Bat Tazor Suit

i would have threw a chair, and pushed a table into the crowd to get my friend out...
and RUN

i don't see the odd of 2 vs 10 winning, unless my friends a black belt

I got jumped once, but I was by myself. I didn't have any idea it was coming and had no idea what to do when I was getting whooped on. I just tightened my muscles and covered my face. I guess if it happened again, I'd do the same thing...when it's 10 to 1, and it's all close quarters there isn't much you can do.
If one of my friends were getting jumped, I'd do whatever I could to help. If that means jumping in there and taking a beating also, then at least some of them will be concentrating on me and my friend would be getting beat less badly.
Everyone should take self defense courses! Then everyone would be able to beat everyones @ss

Knowing what I know about Judo, it gives me an advantage to try and diffuse a situation. It is what my sensei called "verbal Judo" and has proven time and time again to help me get out of what looks like a bad situation. Almost every one of them involved my brother and I out with friends and our friends drank too much and started acting like asses and we would have to "diffuse" the situation.

I have had other Judoka from my dojo that have had to use it out "in the field" with very good results. Most groups will try to attack you if they have 3 or more people. When we focus on self-defense at my Judo dojo, which is about once every few weeks or so, we practice techniques for dealing with multiple attackers. In every real-world situation, it has worked out very well (not so good for the bad guys though).
