Does not give you your credit score just shows you whats on your report and asks for $$$ if you want anything else.
Now i have to go cancel my membership because they bill you after 30 days.
Not worth the time it took to sign up.

How would the business ever make money if all they did was offer free credit reports?
Silly.

Your score only matters if you are planning a major purchase like taking out a mortgage. You probably aleady have a decend idea of if your credit is any good (making payments on time). Even then it can vary from day to day and also depending on what company produces the score so I would not worry about it. It is a good idea to get your credit reports to check and make sure the information on it is accurate. It costs money to compile and send out your report so the companies that provide this service should have some way to make money from being involved or they could not afford to do it. For free, it can be valuable to many people- I guess it just wasn't for you- no unusual information contained in your report. That is a good thing.

So why would anyone sign up for this if the government mandated that the three credit bureaus to give free annual credit reports for anyone who asks?

No reason to now, unless you know that someone has stolen your personal information and is borrowing money in your name. Some of these credit monitoring services will let you know as soon as any bank or lender reports new credit taken out in your name. Now that everyone can get a free look at their report (w/out a score, i think), the 3rd parties that made money off of these monitoring services are going to be hurting.

The free credit report mandated by the govenment is being phased in and is not available to everyone in the US yet. I live in Florida and we will be the last to get it in the third quarter of this year, I believe. It started out west and is being phased in to the east over time.
