Here's a more appropriate thread on who plays WoW and where.

I'm on the west coast server Proudmoore (even though I live in VA). Anyone else?

I'm looking to get a copy and i'll play with you. Umm what kind of requirements does it have? I could look them up but im a touch lazy right now. Hehe... I'll try and get a copy today or tomorrow.

min specs: P3 800 or AMD athlon 800, 256 mb ram, geforce 2 or above, 4gb space

recommended specs: P4 1.5ghz or XP1500+, 512 ram, geforce fx5700 or above

good luck getting a copy. Apparently blizzard stopped shipping because they wanted to get their server situation straight. So places like eb and gamestop who are out of stock won't get them. I looked all over the place online and no one had it. Some retail stores might (my best buy had 9 on the shelf even though their online stock thingy said they had none).

Anyways, I played last night from 5 to 1 straight. I have a level 8 dwarf hunter (I love guns!) and it's pretty fun.

I sold some crafted light shot at the auction house! I'm pretty excited!

Kacarp steps up to the podium..

Basically its a dungeon. But instead of letting everyone enter the same dungeon and fight over who gets the bosses etc a seperate "instanced" dungeon is created on the instance servers for your group. So me and Gear are in a party and go into the Deadmines ( the low lvl instance dungeon), we walk through the portal and it loads up and we have our own instance. Just me and you and whoever else we invite to our group.
Then if Darkfury switched to Wow and brought Ski with him and also went into the deadmines, they would ahve their own instance up. so that different groups can all enter a dungeon and not compete with each other. Read WoW's info here, they explain it pretty well: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/basics/instancing.html

RAIDS
Basically its just an enlarged party. instead of 5 people you can have 40 people, each in small groups of 5. used for organizing large raids of the enemy cities, or fighting Raid Bosses.
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/basics/raidgroups.html
Very easy interface for it with dragging and droppign to rearrange people.

Hope that helps.

It does. However, when do you see such things? The only portal I've seen is to the train. I haven't seen an instance anywhere yet.

And I assume raids are for higher level people.

yeah the Tram is basically an instanced area. But that one just lets everyone in. you see them in the dungeons. Usually you will get some quests to go to them, elite quests since they require a group.

For the alliance the first one you will get to is the Deadmines(lvl 20ish) in Westfall. Part of the Defias quest series, and you must kill VanCleef. There is also one in Stormwind, the Stockades(lvl 25ish). Then Gnomeregan at around lvl 30. Not sure on the horde ones, but i think Blackfathom deep is around lvl 20, same with the wailing caverns.
here's all the ones that i found on thott:

Instance: Blackfathom Deeps
Instance: Blackrock Depths
Instance: Blackrock Spire
Instance: Dire Maul
Instance: Gnomeragon
Instance: Maraudon
Instance: Molten Core
Instance: Onyxia's Lair
Instance: Ragefire Chasm
Instance: Razorfen Downs
Instance: Razorfen Kraul
Instance: Scarlet Monastery
Instance: Scholomance
Instance: Shadowfang
Instance: Shadowfang Keep
Instance: Stonewrought Pass
Instance: Stratholme
Instance: The Deadmines
Instance: The Stockade
Instance: The Temple of Atal'Hakkar
Instance: Uldaman
Instance: Wailing Caverns
Instance: Zul'Farrak

Oh and if you don't know, check out http://www.thottbot.com/ for item info, quest info, basically everything.

its fun... well fun dying that is. In beta i think the lowest anyone got her was down to about 20% health. At about 65% health she takes flight and breaths fire on everyone, that usually destroys the group.

The thing is in order to get to onyxia you need the key to her lair... which is gotten from a very long quest series in some really high lvl instances. Takes forever to get so not many lvl 60's have it yet. I haven't even started getting it yet, been working on some other stuff.

Why don't they open an AH in Darnassus and Stormwind?

slaus

Exit Ironforge and head east. There's a fork in the road as you come down the hill. You can take either, but the right fork should be the easiest. It will take you up and around a frozen lake. GR is built into the hillside and will be on your right side.

Honestly, even 512 doesn't even help. I had 512 (the other 512 was on order) and all main cities lagged badly as you flew in...

It wasn't until I upgraded to 1gig that the lagging has dimished significantly.

YMMV though.

http://members.cox.net/~tedddee/BOOM.avi

Yeah I read it and it's really funny. It's not really a bug, but it is.

Basically, he was part of a raid group that did an instance. The boss of the instance casts a curse which has a timer. At the end of the timer, it deals a huge amount of damage. It happens that the boss cast the curse on the minion (he's a warlock, not hunter). The guy unsummoned his minion which actually paused the countdown (the bug is that maybe it shouldn't pause the countdown when unsummoned with the curse). Then he went to the action house and resummoned the pet, which resumed the countdown and boom :)

It's actually very, very hard to reproduce. You'll need a raid group (60 players or so) and reach the end boss. Then out of 60 people plus minions and pets, you have to hope he casts the curse on your pet/minion. The chances of doing that are very low.

It's still funny :)

Meh, it depends on who you ask. People will say Pallys are overpowered and should be nerfed, some will say otherwise. They did fix a bug with a healing spell or something so it may not be the case anymore.

I wouldn't worry about overpowered/nerfing/etc right now. I don't think there's a class that's way overpowered compared to the rest. It's pretty balanced.

The only thing that annoys me about Pallys is that they get their lvl 40 mount for free. I have to save up 90g for one! :(

Booyamos
02-11-2005, 07:53 AM
Has anyone played a Paladin yet? Are they as overpowered as all people say?

I have a lvl 60 paladin. They are not really over powered in my opinion, just hard to kill. They have a lot of survivability but are supposed to be weaker on the damage side of things.

Good Things

Can wear plate at 40
Great 2h Damage weapon from a quest at 20 (can use till at least 30)
Seal of the Crusader = 40% increase attack speed
Pretty good healing
Excellent healing with the free critical heal talent
Free Mount at 40
3 lives: 2 Shields and Lay of hands
Good at tanking 1 mob

Weaknesses

NO ranged at all (unless you spend 31 talent points in holy)(or do engineering - thats what i would suggest)
Weak DPS. Well soon once SoTC gets fixed (feb 15th)
No taunt type ability so hard to be a true tank with multiple mobs
Everyone is a Paladin (hard to get good gear on raids, lots of competition)
Combat can be boring at times

I never had a problem Soloing and could always take on very tough mobs. Could never see myself doing this with other classes. Being able to heal yourself and wear plate is great! The free mount means no worrying about having 90g by the time you hit lvl 40.
I can fill in for a tank or healer if really needed.

I'm having a blast with my Paladin. Only problem is so is everyone else, we have 15 lvl 60 paladins in my guild so that means there are always tons of them for raids... so we are all after the same items.

Paladins are great, so are rogues though. Rogues are more active though, more to do.

My priestess is getting quite badass. When I was level 40 I dominated a level 44 horde warrior. It has become increasingly difficult for me to solo quests since I can't tank multiple enemies at once, but when I'm going one-on-one I can pretty much do whatever I want. Let me also say that Mind Control is the greatest spell ever.

heh already done. But its really not that difficult, especially compared to other MMO games. The questing gives you great XP and even if you are a casual player the rest system is really beneficial. Take your time though, enjoy it, because the problem is once you get to 60 there isn't much to do:

Raid Stratholme
Raid Scholomance
Raid Upper Black Rock Spire
Do BRD if friends need help
Wait for more people to get keys for Onyxia
Raid Molten core with 40, die on first monster :P

PVP is ok, but if you get 100+ people it becomes an utter lag fest. Raiding capital cities like The Undercity would be fun, but it gets too laggy to do anything, and the bosses there spawn tons of guards and are super hard.

I raided Org with 40 lvl 60's to take out thrall... barely scratched him, his troll friend turned half the raid into frogs lol.

Would the paladins on Gotapex agree that when you reach 60 or close to it, that they should roll only on the lightforge set since the added Int and set bonuses make it a paladin set? I'm just really bitter right now because a lvl58 paladin I grouped with rolled on my Valor Boots last night after killing Kitronos. This was after we said at teh start of the raid "Does everyone know the name of their set?" Then before he rolled he asked if he could roll and 4 people said it was a warrior set item. He still rolled and of course he beat out my roll of 31. I'm just really sick and pissed off how Paladins in the last 2 weeks have jacked the warriors in my guild of 4-5 Pieces. We're asked to main tank all the freaking time to suffer a lot of deaths and durability loss yet we get screwed over.

Booyamos
02-22-2005, 10:58 AM
yeah the only time i roll on a valor set is if there is no warrior there or if he already has it. Usually in guild raids only so its pretty well organized and we know what people have/need. I've passed on lightforge items before when a friend of mine needed only 1 or 2 more pieces for the set.

I actually don't have any LF set parts yet, haven't gotten around to raiding all that much. If that were to happen in my guild I or the guild leader would definately lay the smack down on the person that did it.

Valor could be used by a paladin but Lightforge is better, so it is the general concensus that Valor = warrior and lightforge = Paladin.

Paladins can do just fine tanking 1 mob, protection specced or not. But the thing is we have no real taunt. consecration is a good aoe thing to get them all to attack you but if you lose argo then you really don't have any way to taunt them back to you.

Warriors are great at tanking multiple mobs and taunting enemies to get them off other people. Also a lot of times the paladin is a back up healer, so it makes it difficult to do that if you are also being the tank.

Warriors are pretty gimped right now unfortunately. They were gods in beta, along with mages, but the devs put a nerf stick where the sun don't shine.

I'm using a mage...and really hoping that at some point they get a little more powerful. It kinda sucks that any decent enemy only takes a few hits to kill me.

Booyamos
02-23-2005, 09:51 AM
mages are unfortunately pretty weak. They are squishies as i like to call them, 1 or 2 hits and dead.

They used to be gods of beta, when they had the invisiblity spell. But a lot of changes hurt them, the 5 sec mana regen after casting rule sucks.
the problem i had with mages was the downtime... sooo much downtime after every battle. They can do good damage, but snap like a twig and always have to drink water to get mana back. So slow.

If you are making a new char i would suggest Rogue or hunter. Druids are rather weak atm and should be getting some fixes in a century or two, same with warlocks. Well warlocks are powerful just hard.

rogues are great and a lot of fun (my alt is a rogue and its a blast). I love stealthing and pick pocketing and then ambushing.
Hunters do good damage and you have your pet to tank for you. I was just not into the whole pet thing, their AI is a bit quirky at times, same with warlock.

Ever try playing a priest? I can't solo anything...in fact, I haven't been able to solo since level 40. I'm level 47 now and had to actually leave my guild because the guildies at my level were almost useless and there weren't nearly enough. I'm a hunter and I take for granted that I can pretty much solo anything. My pet (KingB) kicks ass and overall it's a lot of fun IF you use your pet and long range damage and don't consider yourself a melee expert (I've seen hunters who melee only).

However be aware that in the end game it will be hard to find parties. This is because there are ton of hunters and their role is not well known among other classes. Hunters are meant to pull and/or be consistent DPS dealers (depending on your idea of a hunter). However, other classes consider rogues to be DPS dealers and Warriors as pullers.

My next character is going to be a horde priest, just so I can heal everyone.

heh yeah priests fall into the same catagory, squishies with a lot of downtime.

But priests are in high demand, if you can make it to lvl 50 you will almost never have a hard time finding people for an instance.

I've heard shadow priests can solo pretty well though, but i never played mine past 11, switched to a rogue and liked it much better.

That's not true. I re-specced to shadow around level 25 and though I can kill things that are my level, I can't handle more than 1 guy at a time. Also, I use about 1900 mana to kill one guy my level. I only have 3900 mana. So after 2 kills, I need to drink waters.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add. Mind Blast will cause you to aggro every single enemy in a very large radius. So whenever I use that in an instance or with mobs, I have everything chasing me.

Smokey: Just check around, some stores still have it so it never really stopped being on sale. It's just that inventories got low. But when I got mine a month ago there were about 6 on the shelf at the crowded Best Buy.

Red Pheonix (I think your user name is misspelled, it's phoenix): It's just a freaking huge game. It cannot be bug free. I think blizzard is doing a great job with the technical support and patches, though I think their level of detail in communications needs to be better. I've played with druids (have 2 in my guild). They are multi talented. On pmoore, our druid was our primary healer (we had a hunter, warrior, rogue, pally). On our new server SC, our druid acts as a damage dealer and tanks for me I catch aggro (priest).

It's a versitile class. That underwater form is neat (but ugly) since you don't need potions.

I have a lvl 45 druid on Draenor. Druids are fun... at this level, I can solo quite well. But I must say that I don't use my animal forms as much as I should.

Probably because I did not spend my talent points on them. I might re-spec one of these days to see what it's like.

Just started up a hunter as well. Lvl 13 and having loads of fun.

Somewhere down the road, I will have to find a pvp server.. =)

I'm level 47 now and had to actually leave my guild because the guildies at my level were almost useless and there weren't nearly enough. I joined another guild where the majority of the players are within 3 levels of me so we can all quest together and get to 60 together.

Well...everyone should at least try to have cooking, first aid, and fishing since they're secondary skills and you have no limit as to how many you can have. It's always helpful to have some food, plus it's fun to cook :)

As for primary for a priest, it's really up to you. Engineering is a money drain and will do very little for a priest. Maybe do herb/alch since priests need mana potions.

:stupid: Go with alchemy, because tailoring would be silly for you at this point, and you can always get better armor at the AH. With alchemy, even if you don't use the potions, you can sell them at the AH for a modest amount of cash.

Booyamos
05-02-2005, 08:15 AM
Yeah tailoring is just so so.. the only real goodstuff you can craft is from mooncloth. and thats had a 4 day cooldown to create 1 piece of it, so if you are doing it on your own you'd have to wait a month or more to actually make 1 piece of mooncloth anything.

Alchemy is always good, as a priest you will find yourself using tons of mana potions so if you can make them yourself then that'll help out a lot. also transmutations are always in need. Can charge 5g for an arcanite transmute every 48 hours.

Great.

So I'm using my desktop until the 1GB of RAM comes tomorrow for my new laptop. We get in there, get her to 36%, everyone dies. Okay, let's try again.(

Onyxia is tough, stage 1 is pretty easy, basically the tank should be the only person getting hit if everything goes well. Stage 2 is not so bad, she's flying around and what not, just gotta stay spread out or the deep breath will kill everyone. She should land between 36-40%, and if everything is done right everyone should still be alive.

The HARDEST part is the transition from stage 2 to stage 3, and getting the tanks aggro and positioning. Also at 5% she starts to do way more damage and really hurts, thats when all heals are on the tank and you let the rest of the people die :P
Sucks wiping at 1% or 3%, which we have done a couple times. But we can pretty much kill her every week now.

If ya want more in depth strategies PM me and i can let ya know.

2 days to get to level 24 is not slow at all. It took me about 2 weeks, playing about 1-2 hours a day to get to level 24. Guilds are nice, as they help you level up fast if you have a high level player help you with instances, etc.

This is the first time I've played on a pvp server, and I hate it. A level 60 character just comes running through the low-level towns and slaughters everyone. It's pointless. PVEs are the way to go. My next character will be on one. ;)

yes thats why playing with a guild on PVP is important. Although I hate getting ganked by the lvl 60 horde guys, i have to admit that PvP is so much fun. I think the honor system is cool but they should only reward kills that are made within 3-5 levels. With the way it works now, lvl 60 guys can go around killing newbies and not have any penalties.

Thats how i feel, thats why i am on a PVE server. its not really PVE, just PvP when i want it, not when some idiot decides to gank me. With the new honor system there is PvP going on all the time at TM and at XR. And with the next patch there will be 2 battlegrounds going on, that should be fun.

PvP servers would suck for lvling up, all those gankers everywhere.

Agreed - I'm quite happy to be on PvE .. there is plentiful PvP when I want it, but if I just want to be left alone to do quests and explore the world then I have that option :)

On that note, there is plentiful incentive to go PvP'ing a lot - the honor system w/ the rewards make it much more attractive. That, and being horde there's ALWAYS something major going on somewhere.

If anyone is playing on Cenarius lemme know :)

You're right. That only protects you in a couple of areas though. The majority of areas are contested, so open season an anyone and everyone.

I'm not sure if it's because I'm running cosmos, but you'll know if you're safe by their tag color. If they're yellow that means you can attack them but they can't attack you first. If they're red, it's time to get ready to brawl. In case you didn't know. Buffing/healing PVP flagged friendlies will also automatically PVP flag you.

actually, cooking is pretty nice to have for any class including priests. You can make food with buffs of stam and spirit which is really nice to have. I would stick with it. And everyone should have first aid maxed out. As for your primary profs, do what you find is most interesting. I've tried all of the professions and in the end they all kinda are fun but mostly just sucky waste of time. I like tailoring though to make mooncloth which is a good money maker on the server i'm on goes for about 15-25g per cloth.

Yeah, but after you get to like level 18+ youll start having quests in contested territories. U can stay in the same area with all friendlies but you wont get any exp points after a certian level. I was thinking of switching to PvE but our guild is on PvP so we will grind it out.

My account name is <modena> and my char names are <modena> and <intron>. Playing <intron> most often (the preist).

Nah, certain classes can't learn certain weapon skills. I'm guessing that's why you can't learn it.

And yes, my name is Mocked. It's also Mocked on Dunemaul, although on Dunemaul I'm a paladin. Perenolde Mocked is a druid. :)

2 days to get to level 24 is not slow at all. It took me about 2 weeks, playing about 1-2 hours a day to get to level 24. Guilds are nice, as they help you level up fast if you have a high level player help you with instances, etc.

Nooo! Must resist! So tempting...

I'd like to but juggling three characters with three sets of folks has been hard. It's too bad Blizz couldn't make a single realm everyone played on (like one per continent). Makes me envious of the time I spent playing Eve online. Player base is so much bigger w/ WoW that it would have probably made a single realm impossible.

On a side note, I don't think Maarchk has posted in a while. If there aren't any updates in the next day or two I can start up a new WoW id thread and will maintain it as long as I can.

Going to try again tonight, then take a break to kill onyxia (about 30 min) then go back for more.

The way I see it, I can just not have manufacturing profession. Just go like Herbalism/Mining and sell everything at AH and use the money to buy good items.

If you have:
50 Thorium Bars (about 12g)
15 Arcanite Bars (about 500g)
4 Guardian Stones (who knows)
6 Enchanted Leather (who knows)
10 Essence of Earth (who knows)

YOU SHOULD BE SELLING THAT JANK FOR GOLD (mats for Hammer of the Titans). No sense in wasting hundreds of gold's worth of materials to make a weapon that has a high req. level and is only going to sell for a couple hundred gold.

I wasted 100g to push my blacksmithing up to 300, then I realized how pointless it is with the economy as of now.

I had to buy a new laptop to fit everyone on the screen -- 1920x1200 resolution ^^

We ended up not beating Lucifron -- we had 20 people alive or so when we got it down to just him, and most of our mages were dead, so they couldn't take off the spells-cost-100%-more curse. Got him down to 23% I think. Not bad for our first time and only 33 people IMO :)

ahh i remember the first Luci Battles. Well just getting over that bridge was annoying. Decursing/cleansing is really key

If you don't have it allready you should use CTRaidAssist

http://www.ctmod.net/downloads.ct

Basically lets you show the entire raids health and you can set a button to cleanse/decurse. Makes my job as a healbot/cleansebot easier.

If ya need any strategy suggestions for Luci or Mag lemme know.

We are starting again tonight, will probably kill Luci, Mag, Gehennas, Garr, Baron. Then friday do Shazzrah, Sulfuron, Golemag. Sunday do Domo and head to Rag. Got him down to 30% last week.

loot wise i got Lawbringer Bracers and Helm of the lifegiver one run, first upgrades in a while. Then next boss a big ol 2h mace i wanted dropped but i had just spent many of my points on those 2 items so i missed out.

We don't have a points system... just who the "council" thinks deserves it, which is kind of crappy in some ways. I think a lot of it is turning out for the guild raids (which I made about half) and helping other people's alts level up. Well I'm usually busy running DM/Baron to get my healing gear to prepare for MC, so we can actually survive enough to get these epics, and I get squat. That's my take on it. The bracers aren't that big of an improvement, so I'm trying not to get bent out of shape :)

How many mages would you recommend having for Lucifron? We had 4 total, wasn't enough to get curses off...

yeah getting a loot system that everyone agrees upon is tough. That probably one of the major issues that comes up. But ours is a simplified DKP type system, we are adding more onto it each week.

Basically get attendance points for showing up to raids, then items cost points. Different for each type of set item etc. Then we have a tier based system for who can get the item. So every 10 points is a tier, so anyone 10 points or less below the highest person who wants it can roll for it. Usually 2-3 people or if you save up you are guaranteed the item since you are like 20 points ahead.

http://www.nasher.us/wow/Breakdown.htm

Is a rough breakdown of our loot so far, working on making the formatting better and adding graphs etc.

xsiled2
06-02-2005, 01:20 PM
this is how ours works:

20 points for being at the raid
5 points for being early/on time
10 points for defeating a boss

boe class items have a 6 point minimum bid
bop class items have a 20 point minimum bid

all other drops are bid up from 6

ski
06-03-2005, 12:56 PM
How do you handle people with a negative amount of points? I understand that is the major problem of the system.

I informally proposed it, and I heard many guilds have problems with folks getting into negative points. I'd say just don't let them bid on anything till they are in the positive, but have you guys had any other problems with it?

I'm asking because I would much rather defer my Paladin epic set for a really good weapon, or healing gear. There's no sense in having strength and agility bonuses in MC for Paladins, although every single Pally in my guild salivate over the set. Under our current system, the next epic Paladin piece goes to me, but if I defer it to someone else, that doesn't gain me an extra shot at an epic weapon, so.... blah, just curious about how to propose this points system and calm their worries about any problems :thumb:

What's everyone general feeling on rolling on items in a group. I used to roll on everything. Now if I can wear it, I'll roll on it otherwise I pass unless everyone in the group is a priest and a mage. I've partied with other guilds and some just try to scare you into not rolling and if you do it's mortal sin and threaten to ban you. Other's just roll for heck of it and some roll with the intent of selling it whether they need it or not. The normal thing to do is just roll on everything I think because that's the system in place by default. The honorable thing to do is roll if you can use it and pass if you can't. And the jerk thing to do is nijaloot it and bitch and whine about if you lose.

Hiro

I will only roll if I need it.

modena
07-05-2005, 08:14 AM
On BOP items, i only roll on what I can use. I have had a few run ins with this, a recent example as being...a paladin in the group rolled and won a 2 hand mace that was better than his 2 hand axe, i was the only other one rolling, next came a sword, which i desperatly needed, and everyone else said i could have, so i roll and then the pally rolls as well, and beats me, mind you it is BOP, so i was like "what the heck", and he said he rolled because he didnt see the other messages (yea right, we talked about it for a few min) and that he could "use it" and those were the rules. Anyway, I thought that was a greedy move on his part, since the mace he won earlier was better than the sword....

On none BOP items, I usually roll on everything, unless someone asks for it, and if i win something and someone wants it, i give it to them. If i am playing with guildmates or friends, I wont roll on things that I cant use and they can use, only rolling on things no one needs or i can use.

Need before greed on BoP. Free roll on green BoE's, but always give it up if someone can actually use it. Don't even get me started on purple stuff. There's a whole new mentality with that.

Well we did another gnomeranean run and this is what we do. BoE everyone rolls if they want it. On BoP, everyone passes and then we discuss who needs it more or if they both say they do then they roll. If you're honest than it's not a problem...sometimes people make mistakes.

yes, the rules that I was told no matter what run/raid - rules are set by the leader

What are the requirements to play WOW? I'm thinking of finding a person who doesn't play anymore and picking up their disk.

The only line that made me laugh was when Butters says "I hate this game I'm going to go play Hello Kitty Island Adventure." Currently there is no Hello Kitty Island Adventure, but if it existed I'd so go buy it.

Actually Hello Kitty or rather Sanrio does or is planning an online RPG. I saw it a few years ago but it was in beta.

My favorite was, "Butters, go buy World of Warcraft, install it on your computer, and join the online sensation before we all murder you."

Don't give in! I quit 2 weeks ago, and tomorrow I'm going to go to Gamestop and get my money back from TBC preorder.

The way I saw it was getting TBC will lock you into another 1000+ hours of sitting in front of your computer. I guess the same was true for any other MMO, but it's hard to stop when WoW reaches out to people that normally wouldn't get into EQ or DAoC.

I told my wife it came out yesterday and she hauled me off to Best Buy to get a copy. The box says it needs 10gig of HD space?? What's the total install size of WoW after all the updates and patches are done? I can't believe that TBC is 10gigs by itself. She installed it on her laptop and runs pretty well but we had to make room. Ugh...one day I need to format the Dell and recover the 10gigs Dell decided to hide.

My computer is a piece o' crap on the other hand. I was running WoW on the lowest settings already. Athlon XP 2500+, 512MB and a 5 year old 128 AGP 4x nVidia card. It's rated up to Direct x8 I think. What to do what to do.

10gig for TBC? Heck no. I barely have enough space for WoW on my tiny disked laptop. I need to get a new hard drive. And video card. And another chip o' RAM. And a new optical drive.

Or, basically, it's been under two years, and I already want a new comp.

I've googled for the total space WoW and TBC take up and someone on the forums said after all the patches it takes under 6gigs.

The biggest online game in the world breaks another record. Link (http://us.i1.yimg.com/videogames.yahoo.com/feature/world-of-warcraft-crosses-10-million-milestone/1182041)

Which game boasts a population greater than Sweden, Israel or Haiti? Online role-playing phenomenon World of Warcraft is the answer: Blizzard Entertainment announced this week that subscriber counts for its smash hit fantasy RPG recently broke the 10 million mark. Warcraft players number more than 2.5m in North America, while Asian subscribers account for the majority of the remainder.

The new figures -- which Blizzard attributes to new and returning players signing up over the holiday season -- cements the game's position as the runaway leader of the lucrative massively multiplayer genre. World of Warcraft is expected to receive its second expansion pack, Wrath of the Lich King, later this year.

Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime commented in a press release: "It's very gratifying to see gamers around the world continuing to show such enthusiasm and support for World of Warcraft. We're always pleased to welcome new players to the game, and we're looking forward to sharing the next major content update with the entire community in the months ahead."

So I suck. I totally forgot to input my key from Blizzcon last year which would have gotten me in the first round of Wrath of the Lich King beta invites.

I finally put it in and got my confirmation while I was on vacation. I'm downloading patches right now. I can wait to get some testing done.

Anyone else in the beta?

:D

To quote myself...

I eventually did give in. In April 2007, I fell to TBC's cravings, with the promise that the purpose was to play with my RL college buddies in order to keep in touch (they moved to Colorado, Minnesota, South Carolina). I fell back into my old habits and started raiding, and eventually quit in early January 2008.

I met my girlfriend a couple weeks later, and for the past 7+ months I've been clean!

To be honest though, I still crave it. Although I've found someone who I can see myself settling down with, I haven't talked to my college buddies in 7 months because I dropped the game. So I long to play it casually on the "off nights" I have with the gf. She knows all about how addicting it can be, so she tries to keep me strong against playing it. I guess that's the path I need to take.

Damn, it IS a drug for some people!

ROFL. Tell me about it. I stopped in Oct 2007, I still get the occasional itch, but I realized that playing casually is impossible due to the nature of the game. All the goodies are in instances and those take way too long to play.

Strangely, I tend to play casually, and that's what gets me to quit. I'm never "Good" so I never go on Raids, etc. :) I still enjoy checking the games out though. Played WoW for a while.. "somewhat less casual" for a while.

I'm probably done with it forever at this point, but never know. I kind of want to try Age of Conan and Warhammer Online.. Who knows. I'll probably wait til you can get the game cheaper.
