sorry, i cant answer your question.....
but i'd like to add a question to your thread:
If a motherboard comes with built-in audio, what is the need for a sound card? Does the sound quality of mp3's, games, etc become significantly better??? What are the advantages of getting a sound card nowadays?

oh definently with music and movies, eventhough you may have a superb sound system already it helps alot, games, not really a diff although if your one of those guys who likes the sound blaster audigy with like 20 diff channels lol,and you blast your games loud as heck you may want to check into one, my bro has one and its really neat to have, not such a neccesity for games though i would say.
you might also find an sound blaster audigy for 50$ some where, i saw one at buy.com once.

Oldie but goodie: Turtle Beach Santa Cruz.
One of the best sound cards in 2000, and still quite darn good. Should get it for under 50 bucks easily.

This used to be a big issue, and it is still to a smaller (but ever present) degree: You will hear static or warbling though the on-board audio from EM interference, but only at high volumes. I have detected it on a number of newer boards, when the hard drives are moving, you can hear faint whistles through the speakers.
Also (and this is the important one) many people complain that the emulated forms of EAX that most of the on-board chips have in their drivers cause problems in a great many games. It has given EAX a bad name, even thought TRUE EAX (from a creative labs sound card) is rock solid.
