Okay this sorta stands out compared to people's suckage posts pertaining to accidents, illnesses or deaths in the families. I am just so frustrated right now about my clumsiness. I nearly dropped my new indoor antenna and in the process put a 2.5'' gash in the bottom left hand corner of my TV screen. It totally shows under bright colors! I can't believe I let myself do that!! Arrgh. And i only logged about 10 hours of watching the damn thing. It's already scarred. I just can't keep nice things. Damn't.

I don't think warranties cover acts of stupidity. Maybe there is some type of compound or polish i can add to minimize the scratch.

What exactly did you do to the screen? What kind of tv is it?
Without knowing, I would guess a RPTV bigscreen with a plastic screen cover? If that is the case, they do sell replacement screens which might take care of the problem, depending on how deep the gouge goes.
A decade and a half ago (geez), my father bought a lovely 72" Pioneer RPTV...the thing was huge. The problem was that my younger brother who was 3 or 4 at the time decided to run one of his wheeled toys against the screen. It scratched the cover pretty badly. A local authorized repair shop had a special polish which diminished the scratches a bit....you could still tell that they were there, but it wasnt as bad.
You can also contact the manufacturer and see what if anything can be done. Dont lie about how it happened just explain and see if they can help you out (even if its with you paying a little for repairs). Sometimes they will offer to do so for free if its in the warranty period just to keep you happy. Nothing ventured nothing lost. If they say no, you are still in the same position.
Hope you can fix it without resorting to anything illegal.

Those are some good, reassuring ideas. It is a DLP TV and and the part i scratched seems to be a translucent plastic screen cover. The only relief I have right now is that if i choose the Theater 2 widescreen mode, the movie plays above the scratch. I recall seeing a design schematic of my tv on avsforum. I'm going to hunt for it and see what i can do, and then call toshiba. Probably take care of that during the week.

Actually I never got to read what you wrote, so i used the GAM's comment as reference. I just don't like being shady.
