Yes, especially driving down I-95 at rush hour at 65 MPH surrounded by 18 wheelers.

i get to drive in snow today :)

man, as much as i love the south, we freak out when it snows. we got a southern blizzard today, AKA a flurry. I've not been to the grocery store but i bet you couldn't get a gallon of milk or a loaf of bread. And phones are down everywhere. All my employees want to go home early. quite comical really.

Everyone at work here in MD stayed in for lunch b/c they are sissies. 2 of us went out for lunch and people were amazed that we went out in the 2" of snow that came down. I guess when you grow up in an area that gets a good bit of snow, has a lot of hills/mountains, you don't really sweat the snow when there is only 2" of it and the roads are all flat. :) I do love driving in the snow. I might just have to invest in snow tires again. :)

i drive a civic, front wheel drive so i don't really fishtail. i just slide around. i bought some great goodyears a year or two ago and they are great in the snow. if you learn to drive properly in it, snow is no big deal. the worst is not snow, it's when the temps are hovering around freezing and you get that slush/ice/snow crap. that's far more treacherous than plain old snow with low temps.

yeh, just talked to my brother in Alpine, CA and he said it's toasty there.

but back to the snowy roads... i can make my car fishtail and it's front wheel drive. granted it's not a big whoop, but the back does take a swing. i love driving in the snow. don't like the ice, and cannot stand the overly paranoid drivers who need to get out of my way or get off the road now. :D

side-swipe them into a ditch. they won't come out until it's dry and warm again. :D

isn't fishtailing FUN?!

Not really, as seen by today... (Click pic for full size)

Fish tailed and couldn't catch it in time. Went into the median, aka ditches here in WV. Caught the front of the Tahoe in the other side of the ditch and up and over she went, ending up the drivers side. Came down pretty hard, but didnt sustain much damage. Was still driveable even. Lucky thing was that I didnt end up in oncoming traffic, hit anybody else or hurt myself.

Funny thing tho... I drove all the way back from DC (4 hrs) through much worse weather without incident. Get 5 miles from work and wham. Roll the damned thing. Oh well, at least it wasn't mine!

Icy, slushy, snowy... just generally fooked up. Just hit a bad patch I guess. Had been much worse conditions, although better roads, on the Maryland side. Once I hit the WV border, it all went to hell... WV just doesnt take care of its roads. Its pretty sad.

no offense to irish and the rest of the suv drivers but i see a LOT of them in the ditch when it gets icy. i think it's because the drivers don't realize that 4wd doesn't do anything when it's icy. they go flying by and then you see them buried in the median.

No, none taken... I consider myself a pretty good driver, especially when it comes to recovering from things like this. Just didn't happen this time. 'Twas an accident, that's all. **** happens, ya move on, the sun rises the next day.

But I would agree... I saw 3 other accidents on the way home. 2 Grand Cherokees and a Blazer. People are just stupid or unlucky.

not true at all. Fishtailing is more the result of speed and weight than it is raw traction. A 4x4 with a decent driver can pull itself out of a fishtail, but it's quite easy to actually do.

I think it's more of a feeling: "Well, Gawsh, I own a SUV and it's invincible." There are so many SUVs in accidents during ice/snowstorms that it isn't funny.

Fishtail is when the back end of your car slides out from your control. Imagine it like "drifting" in the snow...

With front wheel drive, the real fun when driving on snow is to start out in reverse. Gun the engine, and when you get a bit of speed crank the wheel hard. If you're good, you can perform a beautiful 180 degree spin then take off going forward. I used to love doing this (in a safe location), but my wife would always go bezerk if I did it when she was in the car.

Aye, they are calling for 2-4 feet out here over the weekend as well. Going to have to tunnel to my truck to get to work I guess.
