SS: Getting a ticket for 5 over

My wife just called me and she got her second ticket in 3 weeks for going 5-7 over. Seriously. Don't the ****ing cops have anything better to do? My wife feels bad about the fine. I don't care about the freakin' fine. Just the insurance hike that's sure to follow. Damn damn damn damn. The one she had a couple weeks ago she didn't tell me about until the day before the fine was due so i had to pay extra so that it wasn't delinquent. :censored:

Any way you can contest it? There's a website out there I think that helps you. I think they ask for a small donation or fee if you win and nothing if you lose. Look for mistakes like wrong car make or model, VIN, License plate...etc.

I would contest that ticket. Cops typically don't write tickets for 5 mph over for a very good reason. If you go to court you can argue that that small an amount is within the margin of error of the radar gun. It was radar, right?

At this point she won't be eligible for traffic school on account of the other ticket so you really have nothing at all to lose by fighting it.

That truly sucks but I do have to question if it was in the same area? Cops will often step up patrols in certain problem areas and enforce anything and everything they can to get the area to be a known hot spot for police activity.

For example, the cops around Poway have started to ticket people for going 3+ mph over the speed limit, failure to use turn signals, failure to turn on signals at a safe distance, and similar trumped up crap. The daughter of a friend of the family managed to get stopped 2 times in under a week for once failing to signal a lane change and once going 3 mph over the speed limit (this was on a 45mph road!)

As a result I have been crawling everywhere and making sure that any and every move I make is telegraphed to everyone. Which apparently pissed off a different cop the other day because he gave me a dirty look as he sped past me. :hihi: Good thing I was following the laws to a T.

I would fight it too. There are many things you can argue depending on if the cop car was moving when it clocked your wife or sitting still. Radar guns are not that accurate and most of the ones older than a couple of years have serious design flaws and even the newer ones have flaws just not as many as the older ones.

Get radar detectors for her and you. In the long run they are cheaper.

5 over speed limit is still valid. maybe not 10 but i remember 5 being ok.

I know if I got a stopped for speeding, ticket, and insurance hike, I would NOT be speeding 3 weeks later... it would take me a while to feel comfortable breaking the limit again.

Really? I speed AT LEAST 55-65 mph on Scripps Poway Pkwy to Costco all the time. I know that road is 45-55 (depending on location).

Oh man that stinks. Perhaps she can fight this one. And other then that, i dont know.. be careful. I live near this little Righteous town, that its sole founding purpose was that people could grow weed and have their own little community without being bothered by "outsiders". So as a result, since my high school was next door, i regularly had girls come cry to me that they got a ticket of going 26 in a 25. It was sooo rediculous. But there was also only 2 cop cars, so when someone got pulled over, they would have backup, and then everyone who saw the whole "gang" would proceed to speed and burnout across the rest of town. :)

Most of the people I know are getting stopped in North Poway, I guess they figure if you live here you have the money. Rancho Bernardo/Espola Rd, near Poway High, Poway Road, Camino Del Norte/Twin Peaks, and Bernardo Center are all hot spots that I know of.

I have not run into any problems on Scripps Poway Pkwy myself, but when you turn down community road they grab people there all the time. The cops also like to hide out behind the animal hospital sign when going east on Poway road.

You are constantly going down Bernado Center and/or Camino Del Norte to get to HP. As such you are going through some of the areas of heightened patroling. I have had a few cops creep up on me recently on Camino Del Norte, but never gotten pulled over due to actually being careful about it.

Cheapie, in California you can argue that a speed limit sign is really a recommendation depending on the conditions. Under good conditions you can go a bit faster ... under poorer conditions you have to go slower. You may want to investigate if it's the same where you live.

As a side note, do you happen to have cruise control?
