Cant really say I feel bad for him. If you can afford a 05 R6, you can afford the insurance.

How much could insurance for a bike be anyway?

my boss just got his new r6 a couple weekends ago and told me that the insurance was gonna be around 2500/year for full coverage

Honestly, here in Indiana it is ILLEGAL to operate a vehicle with no insurance...
I'd highly recommend against that... if you can't afford the insurance, you honestly can't afford to be riding the bike.
Personally, I wouldn't let something like this stop my from buying "nice things" for myself. There are always gonna be jealous people out there who will want to take things from you... you just have to make sure that you are properly prepared against that (which means being fully insured in this case).

$2500 for a college student is lot. He got excited and bought a bike. I can go and purchase a new 350z, and make payments no problem. BUt insurance is double the payment per month, that i cant afford, so i dont buy a 350z. Is there some kind of Buyers protection for stuff like this..?

Hey.. what can we say...
That's why you don't see alot of "college students" driving all kinds of expensive sports cars and bikes...
But when you get out of college... if you are still into it, you'll be able to afford all of those things. :thumb:
BTW.. most "buyers protection" will not cover user error or theft. If the bike was a "dud" then you might have a case there. But as it is... he's SOL.

well if you can't afford to cover youself then you should go without or be charged with indecent exposure (to risk)

Hahaha, i agree. Apperently they just pulled up in a truck, picked it up and took off. That easy. The officer said reassuringly "u can probably see your parts on ebay in a week." There so sweet sometimes..

as far as i know its illegal to operate a vehicle w/o insurance in any state...
'05 R6 got jacked no ins... man, that sucks.
Lets see... on my '00 R6, i think full coverage for me for the year would be about $4k.... for the ZX10R i think it would probably be $6k.
i only payed $3800 for the R6, and only $2700 for the ZX10R... so theres no sense in my carrying full coverage. Both are paied for, and at that rate, you could buy a new bike every year instead of paying full coverage.
As is, i think i pay about $300 every 6mo for liability on the R6. I dont have ins on the ZX10r yet because its not a street bike... parking lots only :)
Don't forget Audis and Range Rovers.
Or 911s and Boxsters. Those seem to be the big thing over at the Business School or with the football players.

Your absolutely right must have insurance in any state. U cant even register or purchase a vehicle without proof. So how did he buy the R6? Hmm I think he had liability, but no full coverage.

That's what happens when "Mommy and Daddy" are rich...
But for the "regular" poor "starving student"... this just ain't happening.
BTW.. please tell me... how many of those BMWs and Benzs belong to students living in campus housing? :D

I would say most of them, people usually dont commute in cars like that.
Man i remeber our rival high school San Marino High School (Near LosAngeles) 70% of the cars in the student lot are BMW, MBenz, Lexus, Acura. And if there hondas/toyota/nissan there completly fixed up with turbo's, custom body kits. Insane. THis city has a ban on Apartments, and Self Service only gas stations. godbless america.

I would say that you are the exception... and not the rule.
Most of the rich kids lived in their own places when I was in school. Hell... one guy who drove a Porche even had his own dayuum HOUSE that he was living in while in college.
Pretty much... if you got money.... well you can have basically what you want. However if you don't got the cash, I wouldn't recommend blowin' it on depreciable assets until you have a good enough job to sustain the lifestyle.

Yea the thing is a lot of the University of California schools require you to dorm the 1st year. So when u get to the parking lot, it looks like an dub/import show. I think the exception is just UC irvine. I dont go there, but 1/2 my friends do. Most college kids use bikes, becuase u can park them real close to class. plus its affordable.

Exactly....
Buying a brand new car with liability would be a really stupid idea. He spent like $9K on a bike and tried to save 1-2K on insurance now he is in the hole 9K with nothing to show.
This is why I have been buying bikes that are 8-10 years old. They are worth about 3K new and I dont get full coverage.
