On saturday i made a stop at Frys to pick some stuff up along with a friend. Well he ended up losing me in the store and wandering into the toy section. We've both been really interested in Nitro RC cars for a while, and after looking at the craptacular electric toys at Frys, I finally convinced him to save his money in the longrun and just get a decent Nitro Car. Well that afternoon we went to a hobby shop, and after discussing it with the guys there I chose to let him get the HPI Nitro Savage 25 (http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/261741.asp) (Its his but I usually make purchase decissions for the people around me when it comes to more technical stuff).
It was a pain in the ass to break it in, but man was it worth the wait. This thing FLYS! And in short time we played with it it keeps getting faster and faster (I think right now it does a good 35 with the offroad gears). We went to the beach with it and in a matter of 10 minutes we had seven 5 year olds and two dads chasing after the thing. Unfortunately we don't have a ramp but i made a small one in the sand at the beach and it would fly off that thing. Only problem with it is that the brakes are almost nonexistant. It takes soooo long to stop, especially now that its going faster, which caused a couple minor crashes. Luckly this things built like a tank, not a scratch on it.
I'm thinking after the brakes are upgraded, we should mount a wireless camera on it and get in some first person views.
I remember reading some of you have T-Maxxs' or something similar. Care to share your experiences?

Yeah, brakes are almost non existant.
Donnie has a buggy. Ran it into the fence in the back yard. :disa:
Now it sits needing a couple A-arms. He and Mikey want to buy a truck. Mainly because his buggy is about 10 yrs old and the newer engines are a lot better... boys and their toys... :D

Thats why i always bought the oversized, overweight, plastic A-arms, for my RC-10 B3. I remeber my brother crashing ma buggy into the curb, breaking them every 10 minutes. Mines collecting dust in my room.

The guy up the street from me used to run his nitro car down the street, until one day the cops were passing by and told him to keep it off the street and use the school parking lot 1/2 block away from him.
Recently my friends and I have gotten back into the RC area; I will try to post a picture of my truck later. One friend has a Traxxas Rustler (purple), another has a RC10GT (new style, see picture below, red) and I have the older style RC10GT (tub body) I took these pictures (http://www.thunderforked.com/dalecclark/images/rctruck/) last time we were out goofing off at a local parking lot with our trucks. I took the pictures with a canon eos 20d, then morphed them together with photoshop, the problem is that the angle I was at for the non fuzzy ones, I had to progressively move the truck over slightly so it doesn't quite line up perfect where it would in the original image. The fuzzy pictures I had the camera improperly setup. Enjoy.

looks like Svyn was using a broken drawer or something. never got into RC cars but they sure look like a lot of fun.
how efficient are they on fuel? do you have to carry a lot of extra fuel with you?

the tanks take about a cup and run out in about 15 min.
a gallon of fuel costs about $25
Actually the ramp support is a base-board heater that stoped working recently, was helping keeping the garage we work on our vehicles (non RC) above freezing. Might as well make use of it, one mans trash, another mans jump support!

I'd love to go to the skate park with the car. What other kind of ramps have you used svyn?
Well when I first got the truck we had a few dirt tracks to go to (this was 6 years ago), from motorcycle tracks, to true RC tracks. Nothing like watching your expensive rc truck fly 15-20 feet in the air and stuff the front end into the next jump and still keep going somehow without breaking things.
Don't get me wrong, these trucks can be fragile, but for the most part if you build them solid they will stay together through some amasing punishment.
I have set up some other plywood jumps in a packed dirt area that was fun and using the environment at a construction site is fun if they have it packed. Even snowbanks as a jump are fun to hit, unless you loose connection to your receiver. Then the truck then does what it wants...
For durability purposes, playing in the dirt is by far the most forgiving on the trucks parts, except bearings. Pavement is very solid, scratches things up, and breaks the most parts.

:stupid:
Usually they race on clay tracks. because its solid but easy on the cars. I remeber rolling my buggy every 2 minutes becuase i didnt know how to control my car mid-air. Once u perfect that its really easy. hit the throttle when ur nose diving, and brake when ur nose is pointed up. Sooooo much fun. man i think ima starte up this weekend..
Indeed, once you master, the art of ti-quan-leap, oh wait.
As you said once you understand how to get your vehicle from flipping mid air and setting it down nice it makes all the difference in the world. I learned that that hard way!
One thing that amazed me about these rc trucks / cars is how balanced they are to land on their wheels, you can do 3 -4 cartwheels, and a few summersaults(sp) and about 70% of the time it lands on its wheels and asks for more.
