rob a liquor store.

seriously, i think it's tough to get a small loan unless you go through a dealer, in which case, bring your own lube, because they're not going to provide any.

open up a savings account at a credit union, then take out a small personal loan. The interest rate will be somewhat sucky, but it's a means to an end.

Forget the Credit Union. I highly recommend Bank of Corsex.

yeah, i would just give him a call. he'll hook you up. heh

Seriously though, you could try going to one of the online used car dealers (ie: carmax) and they will probably be able to accomodate a payment plan with a reasonable interest rate. Basically, you could use all of your cash as a "down-payment" and then the remaining balance will be paid off on a monthly basis with interest tacked on.

Go to a bank and ask them about loans.

Hmm... Depending on where you live, a credit union might be good. Chances are that you're eligible to join one. Some have pretty open membership requirements, like you just have to live in a certain area.

Just do a google search for credit unions in your city.
There's probably quite a few. They usually require you to open up an account with like $50, you can then proceed to apply for a personal loan. You could probably get everything done in a couple of hours.

How about family? 2k isn't that much so you could just borrow it from family or good friends...

Personal loan should be less than 10,000...

If you can pay it off in a month or two write a check with a credit card. You gotta do what you gotta do....

It took me about 5 approx. hours to get a personal loan and set up an account at a credit union to buy a used car.

avoid Carmax at all costs. those guys are more retarded than regular used car salespeople. i speak only from experience with the Carmax in Duarte, right off the 210. they try to screw you on price, and then they go for double penetration on the loan %.

It does seem to be more about car loans than it does cars...

$2000.......for a car...............to deliver pies................ yeah, you are barking up the wrong tree.

You need something highly dependable and can take a beating. I highly doubt you will find something for $2000 that will meet that criteria. For $5k you could easily get something that would work but I really would be skeptical of anything below that.

Doing a quick car soup search, I found a $2100 -- 1991 Honda Prelude with 170k on it. Things like that are what you will find....beyond beaters.

My kid had a 1993 Honda Accord with 193,000 miles on it that cost $3,000. The body and engine were still in great shape. I'd recommend an older Honda. They run forever and parts are easy to find.

Yes, but was your kid delivering pizza? Trust me it beats the hell out of your car delivering pizza. Lots of stop and go plus speeding every which way you can.

Favorite car of many delivery guys was the Honda CRX since you could load it up well, extremely fuel efficient, had a little zip (they thought), was small and manuverable, and finally easy to repair/mantain.

One of the guys I used to drive with (or against as we used to all jokingly view it) drove a Turbo Volvo wagon as his delivery mobile.

I delivered pizza in 1999 with my 1992 Mustang 5.0 V8 and it went well. I think you can find a honda beater for $1000 and use that. A few friends of mine picked up 88 Accords for around $800. The body wasn't mint, but those things ran till 250K....

He is looking for a beater to deliver pie's in, not something with bling....

So he was asking how to get enough money to buy a car and you guys are all telling him what kind of car to buy....haha

How about looking on ebay? Find a(n) (American) car you like where they seller accepts paypal. Then buy the car from him/her using paypal funded from a credit card.

eBay is cool, but check the car out or have it checked out before you bid.

I actually bought my current "daily beater" off of eBay back in the fall and got a helluva good deal, but I went and checked the car out in person before I bid on it.

Private sellers might take Paypal, but most used/new dealers will not. They'll take a deposit via Paypal, but most won't take full payment via Paypal because it is too easy for the buyer to get "buyer's remorse" and have Paypal reverse the charges. The eBay Motors forum is full of stories from dealers that this has happened to.

You delivered pizza in a car that was 7 model years old, thats not an issue. Most cars he is going to find for 2k are going to be much older than that. Delivering in a 17 year old car is not smart (the 88 you mentioned). You need it to be reliable and dependable....plus easy to fix and cheap to operate.

No one was talking about getting the bling. Furthermore, you said you delivered in 99....was it just for a few months or for a whole year? What about having done it for 2.5 or 3 years plus another year of managing? I'm basing my statements on my years of delivery experience, my management of delivery drivers, and all the trouble/issues I have witnessed.

The #1 requirement is the reliability of the car....every time it breaks down its money to fix and money from missed work. Plus, generally the managers will only give you a limited number of break downs before letting you go as a result.
