my mother-in-law's car is in the shop and needs a new "rear end." what parts are we talking about here?
links to articles that explain how said parts work appreciated :)

If its a rear-wheel drive car, it usually means rear differential, axle, hubs, and perhaps brake rotors, calipers, pads, etc. etc. Sometimes the brake system can be reused.
If it's FWD, its usually just the axle and hubs.
Sometimes if you buy a rear-end you'll get the leaf springs as well.
