View Full Version : Do you ever...

Do you ever start typing a really long response to somebody, and then just erase it? Or begin a thread and write this big, long thing and then decide you don't want to? Or begin a PM and then don't send it?
The reason I ask is I feel like I've been typing this evening forever and yet I think I only have a couple of real posts. I've started a couple of threads and then instead of actually starting the thread, I'd go back to the General Topics page. I've started two PM's, wrote really long messages, and then just hit the back button or the Forums button.
Anybody else ever done this?

I've done that... my sis in law does that obsessively with emails. She's taken up to 6 hours to answer one email. It drives me nuts.

All the time. Usually something will be funny and then I'll read it again and it's really not.

I've done that all the time. The best times for me to do that are when somebody has posted something inflammatory, and it behooves me to not fall for the trolling or egg on a bad discussion.
I also do that with threads I might start that I know will get bad reactions. Sometimes I save the argument from starting.

all... the... time...
it's actually one of the reasons my daily post avg. has dropped drastically here in the past year and a half or so...

I always do that, mostly because I'm at work when I do it and I see that my response is taking too long to type so I just figure the hell with it and erase everything.

It happens to me all of the time at work or school. I am focused on what I am typing, then someone interrupts me. I lose my whole train of thought, and I have to erase everything. It is frustrating.

Oh yes... not so much due to distractions (as some have shared), although I can certainly understand this. My reasons relate more to "on second thought" judgement. I do my best to offer levity, constructive comment & useful information... not to mention friendship. I hope to receive the same.
I often regret that I have spoken; never that I have been silent.

Yeah I do that all the time, which is why I hate it when people can see me typing when I chat using AIM or MSN Messenger. Can you turn that feature off in MSN? My friends always ask me why I'm typing so long but say nothing.
I think it's just part of a natural thinking/writing process that most people go through.

Yeah, that's how I am. I get through this whole thing and then say "forget it" and delete it all. I don't know if it's out of fear of sounding stupid, or that I just don't feel like saying that anymore.

Nope and that probably explaines a whole lot. Fire away.
J/k.
Sometimes I have to double check and edit or cancel the mssg. Mostly because I now know email and mssgs come out sounding a lot harsher than I mean them to. And If you cant say something nice..........

i just did this recently-i posted a really long post, and then realized it was completly off topic. so, in desperation not to look stupid, i edit it and put in whatever i can think of. And what do you know, i was so quick to put something down, it gets me in trouble with the moderators. time to start reading EVERYTHING before i post
I do it all the time. :naughty:

Yes, which is why I had to disable the "let others see when i'm typing" feature on instant messanger.

I have done it many times to avoid an arguement.

I do it too. Sometimes when I'm responding to some idiodic drivel, I'll re-read it and see that I am being as idiodic as the original poster. Then I'll delete it.

I do it all the time, usually to cut out stuff that could potentially get me a T.O. or banination.

I do it most of the time because I don't want to sound stupid. or I was typing with two hands and one of my kids wants to be held and then I have to type with one hand and I just get irrated and delete it all.
