Not in a school unfortunately, you don't. The county school board is free to set whatever limits they wish to impose on students.
I think your case is worthy of a well written letter to the editor of the local paper, though. You could easily mention how there is no such thing as an LSD addiction so the shirt couldn't possibly be a drug reference. ;)

they are within their right to have a double-standard as long as they are not discriminating against a legally protected class. suckage? yeah. legal? yeah.

Just wait until college...then you can ACUTALLY get hooked on LSD ;)
In the mean time realize high schools are very authoritarian.

what rights do high school students have??
cheapie
03-10-2005, 10:43 AM
same as everyone else. however, you are not trying to excercise your right to free speech in public. you are trying to do so in their building. big difference. i couldn't wear that shirt to my work so don't feel too bad.

i dont understand how i can walk around with a tshirt on and get in trouble but some other people can have body parts flopping out and not get in trouble...double standard if you ask me.
Yes it is, but who is really going to be offended by some hot girl wearing a skimpy outfit? I know that is what helped me get through parts of highschool. Just watching all the pretty ladies walk by.

have fun. i'd be more pissed that our schools are so watered down that we're producing a generation that is inferior to the rest of the world. that's a bigger problem imho than the fact that they won't let you wear a shirt making an obvious reference to drugs. ;)
Can you honestly say you didn't think you'd get censored? Something tells me you were trying to test the system. The fact that it explains the message on the back doesn't really help your face. I could wear a shirt that said "I hate SPICS" on the front and on the back it said "silly people in clown suits" and it doesn't really make it much better, does it?
BTW, you can be mentally addicted to anything.

If you ever get your hands on an official Got|Apex t-shirt, you'd better not wear it to school, either!
If I recall - the front reads something about "getting it every day" (or morning).

BTW, you can be mentally addicted to anything. That's not true. LSD is not habit forming in any way. It works on a different level from drugs like coke and weed and opiates. Its not something you take for a buzz or kick. Its more like a 12 hour flight out of reality. Way too heavy duty, way too draining on the body and psyche, to build up any sort of tolerance or physical dependence. It would be like getting addicted to barium enemas.

I meant it in a more general form. LSD is fun as a mother****er. Anything that fun can be habit forming mentally not physically. And as far as tolerance, yes, you do build up a tolerance for LSD.

Of all the things to start a crusade over, this isn't one of them. Try channeling your wounded pride and teenage angst into something a bit more constructive.

The only thing that bothers me is they made judgement without fact.
LSD is not addictive according to drugabuse.gov, so i couldnt be hooked on it, and it says Pacific Rim LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIALS on the back. uck
i was going to make a shirt that says
"High school students Rights:
1.Freedom of religion check
2.Freedom of speech no
3.Freedom of expression no"
or
"You can silence the shirt but you can't silence me"
Get back into school and feed your brain... ya dayuum hippie.... :yell:
(j/k)
But seriously... is the shirt thing really a big issue here? Schools have had dress codes like forever... Just be glad that you don't have to wear an approved "uniform" or something like that.
You ain't there for a fashion show... you are there to learn. You'll have plenty of time to protest later. :D

It was just the way I was talked to.
The teacher didnt ask for any explanation just sent me straight to the office, I understand this seems stupid (which it is) but is censorship in schools really the right thing to do? I don't think censoring the things people wear instead of policing drug problems is the way the school system should be going.

ahhh yes... i remember these days ;)
i feel ya SnowSurfer, but you won't win in this case, and now they are keeping an eye out for you. wear anything even mildly suggestive and you'll be back for reprimand again. sucks, but there isn't anything you can do to change it.
reminds me of a guy when i was in HS who wore a "Makin' Bacon" tshirt and it showed two pigs gettin it on. the teacher protested and he just took the shirt off right on the spot and went shirtless the rest of class. we didn't mind. :D he ended up wearing it inside out the rest of the day.

However, I did have to put my foot down when he wanted to wear it to church. For Christmas, I wanted to make him a "Holiday verison" with the same text, but a picture of a nutcracker.

Our older daughter recently wore a sirt to school here in Florida that said, "I'm Not Doing My Homework." It's a cute shirt and my wife bought it like that. And it's a goof, as she always does her homework. She was told not to wear the shirt again. I thought that was pretty stupid, especially in light of the fact that one day when my wife an I were picking up both of them from school, there was a mother wearing a t-shirt that says "All-Star Pimp." Classy!

I've heard of people getting in trouble with the "A Salt and Battery" t-shirt because it might offend victims of abuse. And yet, they let Big Johnson t-shirts slide.
And yes, my G|A shirt has gotten odd looks.

shes just pissed she didnt say the right thing and now she is trying to prove a point cause she has nothing better to do

Fight it,
Not sure if you have applied for college yet or what your plans are. But I think I remember having to fill out if I was ever suspended and if so for what. I could be wrong, but if you do, it could make an impact on a school's decision.
I would just be calm about it and fight it, and worse case is if they will suspend you. Go talk to the local news, they love those innocent kid gets suspended for no reason stories. You could show them the shirt, talk about what the teacher told you( go to the office). You did, and came back and told her you did, then she changed her story.
I know you see those on tv like once every 2 weeks.

i already am accepted for college, sent my housing deposit ect. Lets see what they have to say today.
Basically the way I see it the teacher could write down some totally bs thing but since she is a teacher they have to believe it even if it never happened.
so stupidddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd

well, i had a similar situation in highschool where a teacher called me a derogatory name. i went straight to the superintendent's office and told him what the teacher had said. he met with the teacher who denied he called me the name. the superintendent said it was my word against the teachers and he had to side with the teacher.
so there you have it. it's bullsh*t, but that's the way it will go.
all i can say is if you stick up for yourself in a mature, articulate, level-headed way you will gain respect from those involved whether you realize it or not.

Yup, but that is how it is. I remember in high school I was accused of smoking pot in the bathroom, I went in, took a piss washed my hands, came out 3mins later. There were two guys in there we were just hanging out, I believe wanting me to leave. So the teacher starts accusing me of smoking pot, and I was like what are you talkig about, I have my toliet seat hall pass from my teacher( the hall pass was an old toliet seat, kinda funny). And she was yelling at me to wait for the principle, I just told her I had to get back to class.
That is the thing that sucks about highschool, they believe teachers 100%, kids zero. I mean if you are a great student and have never had a problem, you might be able to fight it. Just point out your student records, your grades, and so forth.
