I don't think there is a huge popoulation of us here in Ohio.

I like that they recommend that much rest. Just the thought of putting a 1000 mils on a bike tires me out.

Yeah, rest is not only recommended, but for the extreme rides, mandatory. You can get disqualified for excess speed, lack of rest, etc. Some of the events require things like sealing your license up in an envelope, so you can prove you didn't have to use it to give to an officer for a ticket..lol The rally assigns "rest points" for specific intervals, and there are fuel limits imposed to mandate breaks so no one goes riding around with extra tanks of gas and a catheter inserted to drain urine....

I don't care where anyone is, a lot of rides have been completed but riding parts of ways with others in the same area, or for like the 50CC rides, meeting your group at the start location of Jacksonville or SD.

The ride reports are awsome to read, especially of the rally. Several times guys have made it to almost the 11000 miles only to wreck or be wiped out in the last stretch, etc.

In a car you can pull over and tilt the seat back for a nap. When you're riding, what do you do when you find yourself dozing off in the middle of nowhere?? Do you carry sleeping bags?

Certainly, if that's what you have to do. We call it the "Iron-butt Motel" toss the bag on the ground under an overpass, or have even been known to doze in the lot of a gas station, etc.

If you plan your rides with some flexibility, you should have some ideas in mind as you go along. But, Murphy happens, and you might not make that hotel you planned on, so be prepared!

It also never hurts to have a Screaming Meanie, either!!
