With more than 450 horsepower, the new Shelby Cobra GT500 is the most powerful production Mustang—ever.
Ford debuted another modern interpretation of an automotive classic, the all-new Shelby Cobra GT500, at the New York International Auto Show.

The new GT500 possesses classic Shelby design cues including dual stripes, aerodynamic body parts, and 19-inch wheels. In the performance department, the Shelby Cobra GT500 is the most powerful production Mustang ever built, with a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 that produces more than 450 horsepower, a 6-speed manual transmission and suspension tuned by Ford's Special Vehicle Team (SVT).

They didn't do much to it, slapped a 5.4l in it, put a twin screw low PSI super and put some plastic airdams along with a stripe...wow.

I think is is a really nice looking car. But like most mustangs, I'm sure one light rain and all you do is sit there spinning your tires all day.

O!baby, now if I could only picture me and Nic Cage sitting in it. Oh ,sorry, I not skinny, young, or skanky enough for Nic but I luv him anyway. He just needs to be a little picker. :disa:

Man, I hate to see the mark up on that car. I think the Cobra-Rs went for 70Ks

You can buy an original "Eleanor" for a mere $147k. The new old Eleanors take either an original 1967 or 68 Ford Mustang Fastback and then the team at Unique Performance strips the car to its bare bone chasis and then rebuilds it with contemporary manufacturing techniques and modern improvements. Power for he renewed Mustang comes from teh Shleby tuned 408 cu. in. Ford Windsor V-8 fitted with fuel injection. The engine is capable of cranking out 475 bho at 6000rpm and 490 l.ft of torque at 4500rpm. The TKO-600 5-speed manual transmission is on duty to send all of the cars power to the rear via the Currie 31 Spline with Trac-lock differential.

Grips is provided by front 245/40ZR-17 and rear 275/40ZR-17. The steering is upgraded to rack and pinion, while the suspension is significantly revised and update all around for better handling. Leading the way up front are independent upper an dlower A-arms, coil over springs and shocks. Bringin up the rear is a live axle with coil-over springs an dshocks in a setup derived from procen vintage Mustang racing experience.

The Shelby G.T.500E's body is constructed of sheet metal and fiberglass and retains the classic lines of hte 1967 Mustang Fastback. A JBA side exhaust is installed to complete the aggressive look. ON the inside, the 1960's interior remains intact. The seats are vinyl and the dash is made of aluminum with Auto Meter gauges. And of course, the 15-in LaCarra woodrim steering wheel adds to the original muscle-car feel. The Sony steroeo with CD player is one modern amenity that is out of place but much welcomed.

475 bhp
0 - 60 in 4.2 secs.
1/4 mile in 12.5sec with the speedo sweeping past 114.0 mph.
60 - 0 in 138ft.
Taken from Road and Track, April 2005 p.63.

There you go. BTW, they have the new Mustang GT-R listed at an estimated $175k!

i think it looks better with it off to the side. the original had it on the side too. plus it looks too... 'pretty' i guess (if thats the correct word) with it dead center.

Because that is the way they did it in '67 and they are trying to be as faithful to the original concept as possible.

And yes, it does look better that way. Just like police/firemen don't wear their badges in the middle neither does the car.

And yes, it does look better that way. Just like police/firemen don't wear their badges in the middle neither does the car. There was a functional reason on the original for the emblem to be off center. The original had two big fog lights dead center in the grill. You can't put the emblem in the middle if there's something else there. Rumor is they were going to put the fog lights in the grill on the new one, but the engine kept over heating so they had to pull them back out.

Grill looks empty to me. They didn't stay too faithful either.. the fogs lights are where the parking lights were, the parking lights are in the bumper, and there is no chrome at all. There's no scoops, instead there's heat extracting vents. And lastly, there no hood pins which was one of the signatures of the GT500.

The badge is worn over your heart... on the left side. That ain't got nothin' to do with car emblems... :2far:

why don't you start a poll about ...which one do you like the most the new one or the classic concept?

I like the new one WAY better, but as a rule I like new cars as opposed to old cars. With THE JUDGE as an exception.

:stupid: on the liking the new one WAY better comment. I tend to like the 60's muscle cars better than their newer replacements, especially in the case of THE JUDGE. Hell last years GTO shouldn't even be called a GTO cause it was missing the scoops.
