The other day I received a call from Fed Ex nice and early in the morning asking for my correct address as the package they were delivering was missing enough to make it undeliverable. Now I am a bit perplexed because I dont have anything comng via Fed Ex that I know of and anything I ordered has my correct address but before I can question the guy he hangs up.
I call back a bit later and after 15 minutes of looking, they locate the package and it turns out its something I ordered which isnt supposed to come for another few weeks and costs three times the declared value. On top of which, given the cost of the item, they were supposed to give me notice before it was shipped and definitely should have had the correct address.
I call the place where I ordered the piece from and spoke with the dealer. He informed me that he needed to contact corporate to find out what was going on and he would get back to me within 24 hours. Later that night, he calls me back and gives me the tracking number which I already had. Furthermore, he tells me that there is supplemental insurance since Fed Ex wont allow them to insure it for its value (never heard of that before) and that the artists studio apparently acted outside the norm in terms of sending the piece.
This morning, when Fed Ex got here, the first thing he says is "I hope this isnt art work...you would have gotten this a few days ago if not for the screwed up address. Geez, look how bad this thing is beaten up. I really hope they have it fully insured. Let me tell you that you should keep the original packing material, take pictures of the damaged box before you open it, and let them know today."
Of course, this makes me feel great as it is art work and relatively expensive as well. After carefully documenting the damage, we finally opened up the box and found that the piece was basically unscathed! It honestly looks perfect...the only questionable thing is whether the canvas was pulled tight enough.
Man, all I can say is Thank G-d it made it. The box looked like it was used as a punching bag and then sliced open a few times!
