that's great. one of my friends is doing a rotation down there and she called me last night to tell me that they are spectacular, and to tell my sister (who lives near by) to go see them.

another of my friends is down there for the weekend to see them, and it looks like she's going to catch the peak. cool for her....and for everyone else down there.

also, great pic by your friend, nickel.

i'm in the area and I'm not getting near the trees. My allergies are already bad and I think I'll die if I go to the basin area...

I just found out Friday that I'll be in DC for a couple days for work in 2 weeks. I hope they're still in bloom by then.

all those cherry tree's were a gift from japan "tokyo if i member right" guess i could google my facts. hold on
The plantings of cherry trees originated in 1912 as gift of friendship to the United States from the people of Japan. In Japan the flowering cherry tree or "Sakura", as it is called by the Japanese people, is one of the most exalted flowering plants. The beauty of the cherry blossom is a potent symbol equated with evanescence of human life and epitomizes the transformations Japanese Culture has undergone through the ages.

the pic is realistic, like you can just reach out and touch those blossoms, but it's not THAT realistic. :P

Beautiful... never been out East. Other than beautiful trees and a lot of urban decay, what's there? j/k :)

I'd love to go to D.C. and NYC some day. D.C. for the Smithsonian and NY for the dusty old Magic shops..... Oh, and to experience the "WTF Aw U LooKinaaaaat?" colloquialism I've heard so much about.

I was there. :D It was a good time but the city was packed. I would definitly recommend going to the festival if you ever have the chance. It was a great time and the weather was perfect.

It was like early rush hour on the way in and out of DC most of the weekend. The metro was packed too. So, if you do ever decide to go to DC on the main weekend of the festival make sure you plan to sit in traffic or to take the metro.
