Hi, I recently bought a dell 2005fpw on sale for about $400 and it just struck me that it might be possible to turn this thing into a standalone TV.
Is there a box on the market or something you could put together on the cheap to do this? I'm curious to know the possibilities, if any.
thanks.

I believe the 2005 has composite connection, so I think you can take the connection from your cable box directly into the monitor.
I haven't tried it with mine, but I am playing xbox and ps2 games on it.

That's right, it does have s-video and composite inputs per the specs. So do you know what the difference between an LCD-TV and TV is (apart from the presence of panel speakers)?

LCD TV usually comes with lower resolution than regular LCD. The LCD TV also has TV tuner built-in so you could connect via coaxial. If you have a receiver (cable/satellite), you could just connect using composite or S-Video.

thanks for the info bachviet. To expand on this, if i currently use a splitter to get the cable signal into another room (i.e. no close access to a receiver and hence as i ssee it, need to connect via the coax), i'll have to get some kind of tv tuner correct? is there some ingenious inexpensive way to get around it; if not, is there anything retail that can be purchased?

a VCR can be used as a tv tuner.
