My wife and I were cleaning are place today when she looks at a box of china given to us by my grandmom.
Wife: "Um, why does it look like that box has water stains on it?"
Me: "Thats weird, you are right...it does seem to have water stains. (Walk over to box and move it 6") Aw...fvck!"
Wife: "What...Oh my g-d. Sh|t, this isnt good."
You may wonder what caused this sort of reaction in two sensible adults. The answer is........the bottom of the box was covered in yellow, orange, and black MOLD!! The pattern of the box was indented into the carpet showing the ropes that were used to hold the box. The wall next to the box had the infamous black mold growing on it as well. Not good.
We had two plastic containers with files on it and two boxes of china stacked up against the wall behind the couch. Its an area that we walk by many times a day but isnt really in the way. (The outside door is right next to this and due to the way we have our place set up its a dead space) We had an issue with 2 leaks appearing in the ceiling months ago, but never saw any water in our actual unit. Apparently, some water must have also come in through the wall where we had the boxes standing. Since only the box on the bottom was affected, we never noticed a problem.
Now we have to deal with the mold, destroyed carpet, and moldy areas of the drywall. Obviously if it was wet enough to create this on the inside of the drywall...its probably going to be a jungle on the inside of the wall. The china will all have to be washed and a new box found. I guess we are lucky that there will be no cost to us and nothing was destroyed, but still this sucks.
On top of that my step father is in the hospital for a blood clot (hes ok which is why thats not my main concern). After 5 hours looking at frames and matting we still cant decide on one that works with our ketubah. But, we did pick out one for our anniversary present....it just turned out to be out of stock.
Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
