Will this work to plug into the back of my LCD (it is a vga lcd) and plug a component signal into it (such as xbox)
The place I found it says it will do this, but it is intended for projectors...

never tried it. your lcd monitor may not support a direct video connect (it may need pc drivers). if it does, wires are the wrong colors, but i dont see why it wouldent work on an xbox or vcr,dvd playa etc. if it doesent you may need a videocard that will support it. sound maybe another issue.

That's a male 15-pin dsub. Does your LCD have a female out?
As far as your original question, I doubt it will work, but it's worth a try. It's designed to go the other direction, from VGA to component. Those cables are pretty cheap ('specially on ebay) so you might as well give it a whirl.

Yes it has a female out.
The auction I saw them on eBay claimed that they worked Component to VGA (as an HD input into a projector for xbox, DVD, etc) but I suppose they could be lying or just stupid...

I don't think it will work -
Those ARE the right colored cables - they take the different colors that make up a video signal (RGB - red, green & blue) from a split source & consolidate them into a standard 15 pin VGA connection. They are NOT for a component connection (video, left & right audio).

You are thinking composite, not component.

Oops, my bad! Then maybe they will work if there are component outputs on the xbox.

It might work...I have an adapter that is similar for one of my projectors but it sometimes has an issue with Horizontal or Vertical positioning. Good luck.
