Why do any of us shoot pictures of backsides? ;)
Anyways it looks like he was trying to show how the light went through the petals or maybe not.

are you using macro mode? are you making sure you're beyond the minimum focus distance?

Because it's hard to get the sun to move to the other side of the flowers when you ask.

are you focusing manually?
might be your camera, the smaller the camera the worse the overall picture quality no matter how many megapixels it has
