my old video card 128mb ATi 9800pro is an agp card and my mobo, Asus P5AD2-E Premium - Mainboard ATX i925X only supports PCI express 16x and not AGP... DOH!!!!!
so now i am forced to get a new video card, however i haven't been following the video card market for a while... so i don't know what to get
as of right now my system is
Antec PlusView1000AMG Metallic
Antec True550 ATX12v PSU
P5AD2-E Premium - Mainboard ATX i925X
Intel P4 3.0 630
Crucial Ballistix 2 x 512MB DDR-PC2 5300 667mhz ram
2x WD 36.7GB Raptors
3x WD 120GB SE caviar drives
1 WD 250GB SE drive
Creative Soundblaster live 7.1
DVD burner
Liteon 42x cdrw
and no freakin video card

the pci-e cards are actually cheaper than the agp cards at the moment, what are you going to be using this machine for?

Ha ha and you forgot to buy AMD. :P
Best card for the dollar right now that is a decent upgrade to the 9800pro is a 6600GT. Under $200. If you game a lot, grab a X800 XL for under $300. I have a 6800GT and Im happy with it but would have gotten a that XL and saved $100+ if I could have done it over again.

I bought that card about three weeks ago and it works wonderfully...definitely a lot better than what I had expected.

my previous one was an AMD and honestly i couldn't take the heat and the noise that came from a cooler that was sufficient enough to decipate aforementioned heat

XF 6600GTs at monarch at $159 AR or $170 for a different kind. Prices change all the time there so check back. Tax only in FL and GA I think. New egg has had some sales also. Whats your budget. You can still sell your 9800 for around $130 I think.
<edit>oops those prices are for agp, I think. Go X800XL, under $300 shipped depending on where your at. <edit>

The 64's run cooler than the intels do. ;) No use in worrying about it now, 3.X is plenty fast.

Yeap the 6600GT PCI Express is the perfect replacement for the R9800Pro. If you have more $$$, get the 6800GT instead.

i would ebay one if i was you, i got my latest card (9700 pro) for 85 dollars, it can play all the latest games and it runs nice. I'm sure you can find a deal for a card on there
i was going to ask why you didnt get an athlon64 but i figured you may be doing video editing or something and the pentium is faster in that regard.
