saline sinus flush. it actually works. you can buy sterile normal saline, or make it yourself with super-purified water and table salt. .9%. get it to body temp, and then blast some up each nostril... you may have to practice for a while to figure out houw not to freak and choke on the water, and actually hold it up in your sinuses... (you'll know you were there if you can get it in one nostril and out the other.) one of my friends recommended laying on the bed with your head hanging off upside-down for ten minutes before draining to really clean it up good; i just hold mine by tilting my head back for a minute. sounds really "road to wellville" goofy and old-school, but it really gets out a lot of crap (crap that wasn't going to get out by blowing your nose because of all the swelling), relieves the pressure, and makes you feel a ton better. you can pretty much do it as often as you want. i've seen some people recommend doing it every day even when you're well, to stay well. i'm damn well going to at least try that, since i've been nothing but sick for about a year...
and, of course, that's not all you do unless you're pregnant and stuck with home remedies :P aspirin, pseudoephedrine, dextromethorphan, and your antihistamine of choice. and :bandito: if nothing else kills the pain :P

yea, saline is about the only thing that preggers can use...but i hight doubt that OC is pregnant....unless some medical miracle has occured without national attention...
however, i'd advise against pseudoephedrine (sudaphed) at night since it is a stimulant and it will probably keep you up at night....just drink lots of fluids...

I don't have a cold, I just live under 10 mulberry trees. I swear I never had allergies when I lived in IL. Got my first taste of them in CA, but now, I get them in the fall and the spring. And especially since I had Patrick. Having a baby changes your body so darn much!
Feel better OC

people can develop allergies as they age...my mother didn't get allergies until her late 30's...i didn't really get allergies until i was about 12, and even then it was only during the latest part of spring...and the rest of the year i'm fine...i truly feel for those who have year-round allergies...that just sucks...

i KNOW!!! my allergies changed totally after eg, and did another 180 after the twins.it used to be watery eyes and sneezing for me, now all of a sudden it's sore throats and sinus infections. had to suddenly relearn how to treat and prevent all the crap. IS IT NOT BAD ENOUGH THAT WE HAVE TO THROW OUT ALL OUR SHOES AND MOST OF OUR CLOTHES?!?!?!??! *me shakes fist at heavens*
All I have to say is
NYQUIL!!!I didn't have any when I posted, but I was miserable enough that I ended up going out to get some last night.
