I rounded the corner into the kitchen and there he was, sitting in the middle of the floor like he owned the place. I jumped a bit and said "What the f*** are you?!?"
THO warned me about these. Bugs need to stay outdoors, thankyouverymuch.

hehe - in South Africa they're called "Parktown Prawns" .. because they're rather large.
I've seen some get as big as my thumb :-/ ..
Oh, and don't you dare squash them - they smell something fierce if you do :-/ Best bet is to somehow chase those suckers out in the garden and hope they never get into the house :P

Yo. That's just sick, dude. Nasty. Ugh. And with what Grafalgar says about squishing them? Sick.

THO says she only say one inside last year too (before I got here).
Thankfully, he stood still long enough for me to catch him. He's in a Mason jar on my desk, and he's staring at me.

I take it that they are a North Carolina bug? I know I have never encountered them in my life. I have encountered some really really really freaky looking critter out here in San Diego that looks like some sort of cricket/wasp hybrid. That thing borrows down in the earth and shows up every once in a while.

When I see something like that, I try to catch it to feed it to my turtle/fish. They love live food. :D

They ain't alive once you drops them in the water tank and drown them. :P
Anyway I had seen many big crickets and roaches back in VN.

What's really cool is when more than one fish is trying to eat it at the same time and you get the big tug-of-war matches going between fish. My turtle just goes to town on just about anything so it's always fun to feed her. When I give her earthworms, she eats them like spaghetti. :heh:

In high school I had a venus fly trap. Any flies unlucky enough to get into the house were captured and fed to the carnivorous plant to be slowly digested alive. Sometimes at night I could hear the most recent meal still buzzing, trying to escape. I hate flies.
Edit:
I just reread that and want to make it clear I could ACTUALLY hear the flies at night, not in a "Brave Clarice. You will let me know when those lambs stop screaming, won't you?" kinda way.

Where are you at and is this supposed to be next bug wave? Giant roaches and killer bees.... Stupid media blowing thing out of....
I saw a cricket outside my house last night. It was sitting on the wall so no biggie. FYI, killin crickets inside house is considered bad luck in some cultures. Me, I used to feed them to my Oscars... :hmm: That explaines a lot.

:stupid:
the farther north, the fewer bugs. i won't be complaining if i wind up settling in minnesota :P
When we build a house, the damn thing is going to be hermetically sealed. Ok, maybe not, but I am going to pay extra special attention to joints and seams (and window screens and whatever else) to make sure the creepy crawlies can't find their way inside.

Ah yes my arch enemy.
I lived in the basement of a townhouse here in VA for about 6 months and I got tons of these. They're not too big which is good, but I couldn't figure out where they came from. Finally, when I stepped on one with my BARE FOOT I left immediately.
I f*cking hate bugs.
