Looking for a good Liner Lock Assisted Open Knife

Anyone have any recommendations?

Requirements:

Half serrated
~4-3.5" long
Hopefully trinitride coated
~50-60 bucks
EDIT: I also need a pocket/belt clip on it...

I saw one kershaw at WM (I hate the place but target doesn't have knives and Big 5 etc are too overpriced) for about 50 and it's the one I'm considering purchasing.

My crappy back lock no name knife's clip broke and now I'm looking to get a much better knife.

My old knife kinda looked like this one, but without the name/color. (twas black)

You can't tell me you don't use some type of cutting tool EVERY day. I just find it convienent to have mine with me. :P

Colombia River Knife & Tool (http://www.crkt.com/m16zytel.html) has a whole line of these - the M16's. Very nice quality - assisted opening, liner locks & clip.

I swear by Kershaw knives, have for many years. Blades maintain their edge better than anything else I have used. The speed safe technology is great. On the lower two knives (Chive and Rainbow leek) they are fully automatic...just touch the hump on the back. The larger knive, which is the one you actually posted first uses a thumb push for opening. All three have clips.

The top pic has a lockback kershaw in there as well to demonstrate the size differences.

For a sec. I wasn't sure about the chive/leek, cause calif. law doesn't allow for full auto. but after a quick check...

WHAT'S LEGAL:

Your lockblade folding knife should have a thumbstud, thumb"hole", thumb "disk" or similar push-thingy, so long as the "thingy" is attached directly to the blade (versus on the grip and linked up via a gearbox of sorts). It should not have a spring that does ALL the opening (yes, the Kershaw Ken Onion series seems to be OK). And finally, the blade needs to have at least some tendency to stay closed in the pocket or whatever bias a "bias towards closure" or "detent" (discussed in more detail later in this chapter).

Found a partially serrated leek for 41 bucks. I think we have a winner... Or that m-16... But UFC you say the leek is auto open by pressin the hump on back? That'll be the deal breaker, auto would be much nicer. Though the m-16 has a longer blade I still think the full auto would be nice.

These knives are 100% legal. In fact, even fully automatic knives are legal to certain individuals in the military and police.

Edit - Just a heads up. The Chive and scallion have a larger area to hit than the leek, which typically makes it faster as you have to be more deliberate with the Leek. All three have blade locks that you slide to prevent the knive from coming out unexpectedly. That said, I had my Chive unlocked and on me for without running into any difficulty, but when I discovered that the lock had been open I wasnt happy. I carry my Chive with me everywhere I go because its the perfect size to be clipped to the inside of my pocket. The Leek on the other hand is larger and unless you like having larger knives on your side, would best be belt worn. (IMHO)

What are you using it for? If you are doing it just to have a handy knive around...the Chive would be best. If you are doing it to have a rescue knive...well then that explains the serated edge. With anything, just keep the blade sharp enough to shave and you have no worries. Any of my kershaws can cut through a seatbelt like butter. I try not to use them on anything that will dull the blade...I have utility swiss armys for that.

Yeah my friend in the military has a full auto knife that is NICE. The army gave it to him after his first tour in iraq.

I think I'm going to go with the leek. Auto open is just too good...3" sounds a bit short, but the m-16 is only .8" longer, not too much of a difference.

Bummer. Looks like a nice knife. Knives are just so handy. No way to get around it. My machete is great for camping and yard work and like I said I use my back lock knife and my SAK all the time for countless things.

I don't mind having a large knife in my pocket. I know it's not a weapon. Rather have the longer/thinner blade than the infantesimally faster open, that being said, I'm going to go do some hands on research today. :D I find the serrated edge to be more useful overall.

Unless I am using it for ropes, I prefer straight blades. My dive knive is serated to go through anything I need to when I am under...but generally I dont need a serated edge in my everyday life. Then again, I grew up whittling and in the forests so depending on what I was doing I had different knives.

Personally I always found people to freak out when they noticed survival type knives even when I demonstrate the proper methods and why such knives can be so nice. (Although I havent seen higher quality true survival knives in a long while)

liner locks suck, they open way to easy. if they have a pocket clip and a thumb stud they will cut your levi pockets. what you want is a lock back or spring back. like buck, spyderco, or kershaw
