Lately when I power down my PC (XP Prof) , it turns off, then several seconds later turns right back on! Luckily I have a power switch on the back. It is indeed set to "Shut down" not "restart".
Any idea what the problem could be? I thought it could be the power supply, but don't have a spare to test.

Check your bios to make sure that "Wake on Lan" is not enabled. In fact, turn off all "Wake on..." things.

I would try turning off all power management and Hybernation

About a year ago my computer would just suddenly turn on by itself for no apparent reason. At times it would scare me to death when it does so in the middle of the night because of all the lights turning on. Like you, I couldn't figure out what the hell was wrong with it. I checked the BIOS, checked for shorts, the power switch ( I even plugged in the reset switch into the power switch pins in the mobo to see if it's a faulty switch), but all that didn't help. Anyway, this continued on for some time until one night it happened, I turned on my lights, sat on the floor in front of my computer, and just stared at it angrily for at least 5 minutes straight, then I left it on and went back to bed.
Never happened again ever since.
But as of a couple of months ago, my computer sometimes wouldn't start when turned off. I blame the leaking capacitor on the motherboard. So I just leave it on 24/7.

could be a an issue with the switch malfuntioning or binded incorectly, or anything mentioned below. you could also check out this list http://search.microsoft.com/search/results.aspx?view=en-us&st=b&na=82&qu=computer+continuously+restarts

The power management and Hybernation are turned off. Could it be the power supply?
Keep in mind the PC never reboots in the middle of things, only when I power down. It looks like it is powering off, then powers right up again.
Thanks for the replies.

I asked a trick question -- should have posted in hardware. It turned out to be a bad power supply. I tossed the cheapo "Powerup" brand in the trash and picked up an Antec. No more problems -- the PC now stays shut off.
