So I finally got it built..... and I loooove it.
Been working on it for whawt seems like forever, but I finally made my switch over to my ClawHammer system.. it's been 3 days and I'm still drooling :)
AMD64 3200+ socket-939 90nm
GigaByte K8NS ultra-939 mobo
2x512MB pc3200 OCZ ram ( dual channel )
Arctic Cooling Silencer64 UltraTCL heatsink/fan
...also used Arctic Silver M-5 thermal compound...
Antec 550W Dual Fan psu
Aspire X-Plorer Turbo Case w/ LCD temp display
mobo temp: 25C
cpu temp(idle): 31C
cpu temp(100% load for 3 hours): 36C
Not bad for a college budget I'd say..
Still need to buy:
80Gb SATA drive ... or smaller, just need it to make use of my 4xSATA jacks and give games a place to load faster into mem. heh
Radeon 9800pro .... yeah, still bustin out the MX440 LOL
like I said.. college budget, no flaming my MX440, it's been through hell and back
Comments/Suggestions welcome on any of it.( except the mx440, leave it be)

I have a 3-ish year old Nvidia Ti 4200 128Meg AGP 4x card. Plays WoW reasonably well on all the lowest settings. I can't tell if it's slow or the server is laggy.

i have a bfg 5600 ultra for sale
congrats on the new system, and i too agree with the 6600 instead of 9800 pro. www.extremetech.com shows that pretty well.

How loud is your system?

my system?
not loud at all, in fact heh... loudest part of it is the hard drive cranking away in the middle of the night.
..interesting reviews on the agp/pci-e cards, I'm admitedly surprised that the 9800pro faired so poorly in fps--even more odd.... the 9800pro by far had higher benchmark scores (non-fps), by 20% in some cases. I'm curious as to how this occurs?
Legend.. if you run across this thread... think you could give us a crash course in benchmarking video cards and maybe explain how a card can have significantly higher 'benchmark scores' but much lower 'fps scores'?
Anyways, I'm also curious as to whether or not the x700 will come out in an agp interface version. Oh yeah, one more thing, anybody have any benchmarks similar to the ones at extremetech.com ...that were done on an AMD/AMD64 system?

And upon further reading... I find the AMD based reviews, still I'd be glad to see any other AMD64 system reviews if anyone has any and whatnot

x700 = suck
Why would you get that for more than the better performing 6600GT?
Synthetic benchies are mostly for bragging rights or stress testing. FPS is where its at for 1stPersonShooter gamers.
What res are you running you monitor at?

These weren't done on an AMD64 system, but it shows a direct comparison between the 6600GT and 9800 Pro.

And here's another one from extreme tech:
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,1780509,00.asp
I don't know what benchmarks you were looking at that have the 9800 pro scoring 20% higher than a 6600 GT...unless maybe you were looking at two different reviews based on two different systems and maybe got confused with different versions of 3dmark(01,03,05).
There's little doubt that the 6600GT is a better overall card and for roughly the same price, why would you want to use older and inferior technology (9800 pro)?
The 6600GT uses DDRIII, has version 3 pixel shaders, and is a pretty decent overclocker if I'm not mistaken.
