Isn't that the stuff that comes in flavors?

Some is horrid, while some is better?

They do have flavored soju, but that's for sissies. Straight up soju when you're not buzzed tastes like rubbing alcohol, but two shots later, you don't care what the hell you're drinking cause you'll be good and buzzed, and a few soju bombs later you'll be blacked out. That little nugget of wisdom comes from a painful and expensive experience a little under a year ago.

Seeing as how kimchicowboy was last week after just a few, I think it'd be hilarious to see him after drinking a few bottles of soju just by himself.

donnie had brought some home when he was in Korea for a year.

I don't remember what flavors he brought home for me, but a couple were okay, but one was horrid.

LOL

Now now BM, there is room for all kinds of alcohol. One should not blindly discriminate. ;)

You think BM is discriminating against soju, you should read what the Eight US Army has to say on its own website about soju. A very funny and short read. Too bad they took down the FAQ on their site, but I still have the text only copy of what they put.

What is soju? ("")

Soju is the native Korea liquor which in most cases, is evil incarnate. Bad, very bad. Americans who naively indulge in soju can drink themselves into a coma.

Korean liquor. You can get it at some asian markets and some korean owned liquor stores used to have it.

I just did some googling and came up with this:

http://www.sogang.ac.kr/~burns/cult951/korliq.html

Appearance and taste:

'So-ju' has 25% to 35% of alcohol concentration. It has no colors and transparent. The taste 'So-ju' is very bitter and It has almost no smell. It is nearly pure alcohol itself. The 'Makkoli' is different from 'So-ju'. It has dense color: not transparent. It has almost all kinds of tastes. It is somewhat sweet, sour, and bitter: very unique. The alcohol concentration of it is 6% to 7%. 'Chung-ju' is strained from 'Makkoli' and it has 15% to 20% alcohol concentration

:hmm: How can So-ju have 25-35% alcohol concentration and be "nearly pure alcohol"? :hmm: I have heard from many people that this stuff is evil. :)

But the stuff you get here is regulated, right? I mean, some of the stuff in Korea has a lot more alcohol in it.

And as someone who normally drinks Rum, Jim Beam or Guiness, or other stouts, you are right, Brew, I did learn my lesson.

Ok I'll bite what the heck is soju and what is it made from? Can you get it in the states?think of it as korea's equivalent to sake (japanese rice wine), altho, if i'm not mistaken, some forms of soju are made from other grains. you can get it pretty much at any asian food store, more typically at the korean ones. like it was pointed out above, i think it's somewhere in the vicinity of 50 proof, so more than your average table wine, but less than most american hard liquors.

I'm trying to find the Hite Beer. But don't want to drive all they way to fullertonAt the least, I know there's one in Glendale, just north of the 134 off Pacific. (My church is near there. Yes, I drive far. Why do I bring up my church in a soju thread?)
