I am looking for reviews also. I remember it being one of those books that a lot of people had read. Now I get to spend 2 hours and see what the hype was all about.

I've never gotten around to reading the books either. I wonder if the movie could be enjoyed by someone unfamiliar with the series.

I read the books (Hitchikers guide, The Restaurant at the end of the Universe, and So long and thanks for all the fish) many years ago and barely remember them.

Yeah, I saw the prescreening on Tuesday. Here are some reviews (http://www.gotapex.com/forums/showthread.php?p=851611#post851611 ) that those of us who saw it left. REALLY good movie IMHO. I never read the books and didn't have a clue what it was about, but absolutly loved it.

I have read the 5-part trilogy (yes you read that correctly) of Hitchhiker's Guide a few times. I think I'll see it this weekend with my towel. ;)
Oh, and rottentomatoes is officially declaring it "fresh", but just barely:

I read all 5 parts many years ago and currently re-reading them now (just about to finish up the 4th book). I saw the movie yeserday and was pleasantly surprised with it - I loved Marvin the robot and the way they showed the actual guide.
I had 2 problems with it though - the actress who played Trillian was awful and the love story was completely unnecessary considering Adams did a fine job without it in the book.
But nothing beats the actual book, Douglas Adams is a genius with words.
But all in all, I'd recommend it :)

Yeah, Marvin the robot was hilarious. Alan Rickman did a great job as the voice.

:stupid:
Saw it today. After reading some pro's reviews...I was reminded why I don't trust pro's reviews. It was fun. Not hilarious, but fun. A good use of 1/2 an afternoon.

I just saw it and I loved it. It was incredibly funny. However, the funniest thing is that I didn't know this movie was supposed to be funny. I never read the books, though I did gather that it was either satirical or slightly humorous (I did know about the answer of life etc). I was expecting the amount of humor. I was expecting like a star trek type scifi movie. :(
But it was a great movie. I love the part with the slapping and the ideas. :D

i loved it too. it's been over 10 yrs since i read the books. the movie was absolutely beautiful. faithful to the book, but with some neat interpretations that worked really well (like the president's personality.) people who didn't read the book complained that it was "hard to follow" ... i think they were expecting a linear plot or something. it wasn't hard to follow... it just wasn't there :hihi:

I also enjoyed the living heck out of the movie. I've been a big fan of the series (read them all pretty much during a trip to South Africa some number of years ago), and looked forward to the movie.
The cast was awesome, their personalities were captured very well imho (especially Zaphod). It was very true to the book, and did a great job of including the bits that really stuck out in my memories of the books (ex, the happy doors, the vorgon's poems , etc). I didn't mind that they changed the ending somewhat from the books, due to it being a movie and you need SOME kind of conclusion :)
But yeah, all in all, I had a great time w/ the movie - they did a damn good job of capturing what made the books so awesome : the absolute absurdity of the universe :)

DIdn't read the book but loved the movie. It was flawed, but the fun-factor makes up for it.
