View Full Version : School Mistakes Huge Burrito for a Weapon
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/burrito_lockdown
CLOVIS, N.M. - A call about a possible weapon at a middle school prompted police to put armed officers on rooftops, close nearby streets and lock down the school. All over a giant burrito.
Someone called authorities Thursday after seeing a boy carrying something long and wrapped into Marshall Junior High.
The drama ended two hours later when the suspicious item was identified as a 30-inch burrito filled with steak, guacamole, lettuce, salsa and jalapenos and wrapped inside tin foil and a white T-shirt.
"I didn't know whether to laugh or cry," school Principal Diana Russell said.
Speechless. Fear the awesome power of the burrito. Yes, fear it. Fear it.
Wow... do you think they confiscated it?

A burrito over two feet long? No way. That's one big tortilla. For some reason, the size of the burrito makes me doubt the story is true. Perhaps if it were two 15" burritos. But a 30-incher? Seems sketchy.

I think Alcapulco sells a humongeous burrito.
It's somewhere in the vicinity of $20.
That burrito the kid had sounds damn good!

Multiple semi-overlapping tortillas probably. Same way La Salsa makes their big one.

Taken from someone's blog I found while searching for a "30 inch burrito"...
Big Burrito
What could be better than a 17 inch burrito? A 30 inch burrito! Yes, Big Burrito! A resterant in Kalamazoo that has these items on its menu. And almost nothing else. This place is great! Especially at 2 a.m.! Since it's located near Western Michigan University, business usually picks up around 2, 2:30 in the morning. Jammin took me there. It was well worth the hour drive!

A few more details (link (http://apnews.myway.com//article/20050429/D89P98JG1.html))
CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - A call about a possible weapon at a middle school prompted police to put armed officers on rooftops, close nearby streets and lock down the school.
State police, Clovis police and the Curry County Sheriff's Department arrived at the school shortly after 8:30 a.m. They searched the premises and determined there was no immediate danger.
In the meantime, more than 30 parents, alerted by a radio report, descended on the school. Visibly shaken, they gathered around in a semi-circle, straining their necks, awaiting news.
"There needs to be security before the kids walk through the door," said Heather Black, whose son attends the school.
After the lockdown was lifted but before the burrito was identified as the culprit, parents pulled 75 students out of school, Russell said.
Russell said the mystery was solved after she brought everyone in the school together in the auditorium to explain what was going on.
"The kid was sitting there as I'm describing this (report of a student with a suspicious package) and he's thinking, 'Oh, my gosh, they're talking about my burrito.'"
Afterward, eighth-grader Michael Morrissey approached her.
"He said, 'I think I'm the person they saw,'" Russell said.
The burrito was part of Morrissey's extra-credit assignment to create commercial advertising for a product.
"We had to make up a product and it could have been anything. I made up a restaurant that specialized in oddly large burritos," Morrissey said.
After students heard the description of what police were looking for, he and his friends began to make the connection. He then took the burrito to the office.
"The police saw it and everyone just started laughing. It was a laughter of relief," Morrissey said.
"Oh, and I have a new nickname now. It's Burrito Boy."

"No child of mine is going to school with some freak burrito. What is wrong with society anymore? Our schools are filled with danger!"
Seriously, if that happened to my kid, I'd pull him out of school and go track down a gigantic burrito. I'd do it right now if it weren't such a long drive to my favorite 24 hour burrito place.

We can't really blame them I guess....
Just think, what if it hadn't been a giant burrito, what if it had been a giant gyro, or a massive mannicoti? :disa:

this article makes me hungry
I want a huge buritoo
anyone know any good mexican food place around where i live (91108)
Hmm. While a burrito that large is not a weapon in and of itself, it certainly would be after it was eaten. :|

good lord. who the hell calls a school saying they saw something suspicious... and it was something long wrapped in a t-shirt?!?!??! *sigh*
and if had heard on the radio about a possible weapon at my kid's school, i woulda gotten there as fast as i could... and then when i found out some numbnutz called about a burrito,, i would have assumed it was the mean old lady who lives across the street from the school, taken my out-of-school kid to the grocery store, bought lettuce, tortillas, shredded cheese, beans and tomatoes... and ski masks... and pelted her house with that sh**.
and fun and learning would be had by all. the end.
