i saw these pics on another site and thought they were amazing.

"A dust storm similar to special effects on the big screen bellowed across the western desert of Iraq on April 26. The storm was spawned near the border of Syria and Jordan. Forward Operating Base Korean Village experienced tornadoes around 2 p.m. The storm moved in a northeasterly direction until it reached Al Asad, around 6:45.

As the storm moved closer the sky changed to a shade of orange until total darkness blanketed the ground. The storm passed over in about 45 minutes, leaving a heavy sheet of dust in its wake. Forecaster say the wall of dust may have reached 4,000 to 5,000 feet.

This dust storm was a spectacular sight and may look worse than it actually was. No one was injured and no equipment was damaged here.

Some pics from the storm:"

Really neat pics. Scary too. My question is, why the hell is the photographer still standing there??

Reminds me of this one short story by Steven King. It was about a thick curtain of fog that slowly approached a town. There were ominous hints of deadly "things" that were lurching inside the fog. I think it would have looked something like the pics above.

I saw those on Snopes.com, and according to them they are real pics. It's amazing to actually see a sandstorm, and they do look just like in the movies.

the second pic is the best, cause you can almost see the cloud crawling along.

To get THE pictures, of course! Why else do you thing photographers would stand where bullets are flying, bombs are dropping, etc.

The Fog in Skeleton Crew. I loved that story. It was my favorite when I initally read the book.

Dang that's one crazy storm. I was stuck in a dust storm on the Mohavee desert before and it was not a joke.

We get those in Arizona every summer. Never seen one that dense, though.

But yeah, it's like that, there is a leading edge wall. I don't mind 'em that much.
