View Full Version : Could this idea work to make some spare money for the site?

I just realized that when I check prices on various places (not looking for a specific deal) that I type in the address or use my favourites.

Could apex (et al) make more money if there was a "links" page with popular geek links like neweegg, dellsb, compgeeks, surpluscomputers, etc that we could all use instead?

I think they already pick up some cash if you click through the "coupon" links on the right side of the page (the one that lists all the different stores).

right, so what if we have a simple page with links?

Well, that would add another page that people have to go to... How hard is it to click the deals page and then scroll down to the store you want in the box on the right? I guess, not a horrible idea but not sure how useful. :)

Not hard. But your faithful will bookmark the new page.

Let's say I want to do some shopping at NewEgg or any other store. I don't want to have to hunt through the deals page (as it is now) to find the store. I want to see it in the list (maybe with some specials), then click to enter.

The reason FatWallet is doing so well is that they already have something like this - cashback at a ton of stores. If I want to do some shopping, I currently go through them because of this feature. GotApex's main draw is the "random grab bag" of deals -- there is currently no incentive to buy from a store that doesn't have its deal listed on the deals page. I think Bires' idea is a really good one, and hopefully it will get thrown in the brainstorm when the redesign of the deals page happens.

What about the scroll coupon list at the top right? Isn't that kind of a list of stores?

I guess that's two clicks though.

That was exactly what I was pointing out. :)

Hmmm, good point. You're getting to be an expert at this. :)

I've used that coupons list on several occasions, and more often than not, there are no coupons! Crucial, for example, is in that list, but there are no coupons! The one "deal" on there isn't even one, it's just a listing of a standard price. That list is just too dayum long. Needs to be shortened, and maybe include a summary. I'm not saying it should be copied from another site, but just trimmed down to what most people want and attractive offers would definitely help the site. 2 cents :)
