Hard drive enclosure not recognized through firewire but is through USB

i have a Macaly 1394/usb enclosure

yesterday i deleted the primary partion first without deleting other partions and the drie showed up as failed under disk management

i disabled it through the properties menu
and it dissapeared

I then pluged it through usb and it was immediately recognized.
i formatted and repartioned it, etc...


now i still can't see it through firewire. any ideas?
