i need to book a tix soon. i was hoping to fly into DC from oakland, but i may have to fly to baltimore (BWI) instead. what's the cheapest way to get into DC from BWI? the only viable option seemed super shuttle, at $31. i'd prefer something cheaper (even mass transportation, as long as i don't get robbed or anything.) hahaha. thanks!
tentatively going to the 20016 (american university) zip code.

Take the amtrak from BWI to union station (there's a shuttle from the terminal to the BWI Rail Station nearby), then take the red line from Union station to Tenleytown - AU.
The Metro/Amtrak is perfectly safe and very, very clean. It's pretty damn good.
The only issue is what trains are going from BWI to Union Station. You'd probably want to catch the next one, but the fare can vary. The one time I did it, I took a local to BWI Rail Station and it cost only like $5-10. However, coming back, the next train was an Acela and the ticket was about $30. So it really depends. What's your arrival time and day?

Sure! I'm up for it. I think sbp, attgig, mcs, angl2b, and a few others are in the area.

I've taken the chinatown bus to Atlantic City. Uhmmm...the greyhound bus depot near Union Station is safe during the day but you better haul ass at night. I'm not sure how reliable the Chinatown bus to NYC is because there aren't many chinese to speak of. There are Chinatown buses in the suburbs in MD that do go to NYC.

The problem is that the rail station is a single track. And unless you time your arrival well, you may not have a choice. The last time I arrived I got there at around 10pm. I went to the amtrak machine and bought the cheapest ticket, but turns out that was for a train that was 1.5 hours away. Basically, you gotta go to the window and ask how much is the next train. It sucks.

I've taken the chinatown NYC bus and it's very nice and safe. It leaves from Chinatown, near the MCI center.

there's a 7:38pm train that arrives in union station at 8:15
Anyways, that seems like it's the last marc train that you can take. ones after are for commuters only (which makes no sense).
once you get out at bwi, you have to take a shuttle to the rail station, so you might have to run....
if you're SOL with baggage, running, and missing a train... give me a call, and I'll give you a ride down.
oh, another thing though, once u get to union station, you got about 5-6 miles to american university.
