Man Wins Roller Coaster Endurance Contest

Winner In 'Go 'Til You Blow' Contest Gets 2-Year Lease On Eclipse

DENVER -- You could call him the Energizer bunny.

Richard Dickson, 37, of Thornton, Colo., kept on going and going to outlast Sarah Kim, 20, in a roller coaster endurance contest at Six Flags Elitch Gardens Tuesday.

Kim quit at 3:40 p.m., after two days of riding the big roller coaster non-stop and making 861 roundtrips.

It was a contest to see who could hold out the longest in "Alice Cooper's Coaster Go 'Til You Blow" contest. The two had been riding the Twister Two roller coaster at Six Flags Elitch Gardens since 11 a.m. Sunday.

The contest started with 18 people. Then went down to Kim, a student, and Dickson, a mechanic, and father of five. Kim said she had to take her final exams in a few days.

Dickson gets a two-year lease on a 2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder convertible as part of a contest held by KRFX "The Fox 103.5" FM in Denver, Six Flags and Quality Mitsubishi.

Even though they got a 20-minute break every three hours, the two weren't able to sleep.

Dickson took 862 roundtrips on the coaster. With the Twister Two containing 4,640 feet of track, that's the equivalent of traveling more than 756 miles.

The sleep is what would kill me. If I were them, I'd try to nap on the ride, though waking up in time to be awake when it stopped would be difficult.

Two days? That sounds so...not impressive. I remember hearing about another roller coaster endurance promo a radio station was sponsoring. It was either some place in socal or norcal @ santa cruz beachboardwalk. Either way, the last two people went for over two weeks and then they were forced to split the prize or something. Anyone else remember this?

20 min break every 3hrs that sounds like an easy challenge to me.
