I think Audioslave's problem is that the parts exceed the whole. Morello and Timmy shine on those old Rage tracks, but Cornell isn't cut out for those types of songs. So they end up toning it down to let Cornell carry the songs, and it just doesn't work (for me, at least).

I'm a big fan of Chris Cornell and of Rage, but they're two great tastes that haven't tasted great together...which is too bad, because I liked "Cochise", and thought that'd be what their other songs would be like.
