I guess this is a continuation of Cinco de Mayo. He was practicing in Old Town yesterday so I asked him if I could take his picture. He is an excellent musician. I really like this one.

When I took photography in college, we did an entire class on portraits. They are one of the most difficult things to do well. I really like this one, too.

I've gotta stop looking at these awesome pictures -- makes me anxious to get my new camera (which I can't get for another week or two). :)
(Just kidding of course -- that is definately an amazing portrait shot.)
One thing I do have to ask though -- did you actually take a photography class, or has a lot of this come naturally to you? (taking awesome photos, that is).

I took one class in College (black and white) but about all I learned there was about making prints (and I wasn't that good at that), but I have always been interested and learned a lot on my own. I think seeing is the biggest thing. I look at pictures and try to see why they are interesting. When I see something I think is interesting, I have to think why it is and how I can show that to someone else. Is it the object (or person) I see itself or is it how it relates to something else? What is needed in the picture and what is not? Once you see it, it is just technical and learning how to capture what you see. As I am becoming more familiar with my camera, I learn how it will react in situations and what adjustments I need to make to try and capture the picture the way I want. Photoshop Elements 3.0 has been very helpful too. I carry the camera all the time (except at work) and take lots of pictures. With digital, it does not matter if the picture is not good. Just try again. Digital has freed me and lets me keep trying until I get something good. If I go for a bike ride, I can take easily over 100 pictures and then try to find some good ones to share with you guys. This forum and doing the Pic of The Day also makes me try to get more and better pictures too. When I start to look back at all the pictures I have taken since just Christmas it is pretty amazing. I am also impressed that I can come up with at least six good ones a week for you guys. The forums at www.dpreview.com (check out the Konica Minolta one now) can provide good inspiration and information plus they have photo challenges where you can see good shots and enter some of your own. The Konica Competition galleries are here: http://www.pbase.com/mtf_foto_studies
