Dunno why but I am just wide awake. So turned on my digital cable to the music choice channels and am quietly singing away with (currently) Whitesnake - Is This Love, Queen, etc.
Yay 80s music! :D

I loved the 80s music because it was fresh and there was so much variety of music- you could always find something you liked on the radio. Most of the music today all sounds pretty much the same to me. Too narrowly programed by the radio stations. I have a hard time listening to the radio now.

Jenny just hit the wall
she never had it all
one Prozac a day
husbands a CPA
her dreams went out the door
when she turned twenty four
only been with one man
what happen to her plan?
She was gonna be an actress
she was gonna be a star
she was gonna shake her ass
on the hood of white snake's car
her yellow SUV is now the enemy
looks at her average life
and nothing has been alright
Since
Bruce Springsteen, Madonna
way before Nirvana
there was U2 and Blondie
and music still on MTV
her two kids in high school
they tell her that she's uncool
cuz shes still preoccupied
with 19, 19, 1985
Woohoo
(1985)
Woohoo
She's seen all the classics
she knows every line
Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink
even Saint Elmo's Fire
she rocked out to wham
not a big Limp Biscuit fan
thought she'd get a hand
on a member of Duran Duran
Where's the mini-skirt made of snake skin
and who's the other guy singing in Van Halen
when did reality become T.V.
what ever happen to sitcoms, game shows
(on the radio was)
Springsteen, Madonna
way before Nirvana
there was U2 and Blondie
her musics still on MTV
her two kids in high school
they tell her that she's uncool
cuz shes still preoccupied
with 19, 19, 1985
Woohoo
She hates time make it stop
when did Motley Crew become classic rock?
And when did Ozzy become an actor?
Please make this stop
Stop!
And bring back
Springsteen, Madonna
way before Nirvana
there was U2 and Blondie
and music still on MTV
her two kids in high school
they tell her that she's uncool
cuz shes still preoccupied
with 19, 19, 1985

My kids love that song and thanks to the fact that their parents have a most enlightened sense of music from that era, the kids, too, know and understand the music referenced in that song (and have even seen Bruce and the E Streeters live). It's a cute tune.

funny how during the mid-90s, you were pretty much shot, stoned, and flogged to death if you even mentioned 80s music.
nowadays, in order to be cool, you have to listen to 80s music, as well as all the bands that copy the 80s style.

Makes you feel old th ough when the music you used to listen to (i listened to 80's also growing up) is now on 'classic mtv'.. or 'classic pop up video'.. ha :)
what's 60's and 70's then.. ancient?

I love 80's music. Lately, I've found a lot of dance tracks that are remixes of old 80's songs, and now I've had to go and track down the original version just to hear how it was again. :) Last song I "re-discovered" was Belinda Carlisle's "Summer Rain."
I do agree with you guys who have stated that 80's music is simply unique. Sure, there are a lot of "synth-pop" songs, but even those have variety. While the 80's may not have quite the replay value of the 60's, it's definately far closer than the cookie-cutter music of today.
As for the radio, the station I listen to plays all sorts of stuff from the 70's up to today. Not sure if you guys have stations like that in the States, but for any Canadians on the board, see if you have a "JACK FM" on your radio dial. Their slogan is "Playing What We Want" and it honestly makes radio enjoyable again. Excellent variety / very little repetition.

:sing:
"Sister Christian, oh the time has come
And you know that you're the only one to say
Okay
Where you goin', what you looking for?
You know those boys don't want to play no more with you
It's true
You're motoring
What's your price for flight,
And finding Mister Right?
You'll be all right tonight"
I think you can find it on the boogie nights soundtrack.
