I've peeled a banana from the top (stem side) all my life, and my co-worker just said that I peeled it like a monkey would. He said that almost 100% of humans peel bananas from the bottom. Is this true?

You can peel it from the bottom? Odd. I've always peeled it from the top, bending the stem across & down, tearing the stem part to begin the peel. heh
Your friend musta just taken a good hit of teh crack.

You don't need to be a monkey to figure out peeling the banana from the stem side is easier. Or maybe not. Should you peel bananas from the bottom up? (http://slate.msn.com/id/2067407/)
Your co-worker needs to stop monkeying around.

Wait, I always thought that the stem side was the bottom. We need to diagram this, then write a grant proposal for the gov't to pay us to study this, get a sample size of at least 1000 people per region of the country, and then we can decide what's top and what's bottom. After that, we repeat the process to figure out which side you peel from.
Me, I peel from opposite the stem.
Me, I peel from opposite the stem.Freak.

The stem is the "pull tab" to get things started - that's the right way to proceed. :hihi:

i usually cut the stem halfway with a knife, and then i peel it (from the stem). it helps keep the top of the banana from getting all smushed because the stem won't break.
I don't eat bananas.

I've never tried peeling from the non-stem side. I guess it just never occurred to me. Anyone besides SL peel backwards?

I have no idea what the stem of a banana is but I peel the banana by pinching off the end where there is that brown crap at the end that you're not supposed to eat so that I don't forget while eating the banana and eat that piece at the end.
